CD-i Mouse Video Overview

Austin

For the typical home videogame platform, mouse accessories had the tendency to garner little support. Interestingly, such was not the case with the Philips CD-i platform--the accessory can be used with any title available on the platform. The question is, how well does it work?

this is a super slick and informative production! Loved the audio too. Did not know that Philips had all their developers incorporate all available pointing devices in their software. Stands to reason then, that it should even work on the gun games. I've got a brand new mouse for my CD-i that I haven't used yet, but will have to give it a try now thanks to your video. :-)

Thanks man!

The mouse is definitely a solid accessory for the CD-i, so if you've got one, I think it's time to bust it out! :)

well, I'll be dipped - the mouse even plays all the gun games! Gun is still the way to go of course. Disappointed though in the mouses cursor movement. It does NOT handle acceleration very well at all. Seems to top out too early, which means you can't zip the cursor all around as fast as you'd like to. Still, this is a pretty cool peripheral and well worth the cost you can get these at.

Yeah, something I didn't mention is it handles a bit different in certain games. For instance, the movement in Tetris and Hotel Mario, the acceleration seems pretty high, you don't have to move the mouse much (yep, it actually works surprisingly well with Hotel Mario). With Mystic Midway and The 7th Guest, the movement feels much slower. Still better than using a controller, but it could be better.

And yep, the mouse will work with any game. Likewise, the gun will work with any game, too! Try that one out and let me know how it goes. :D
