Found my eSnips (file host) was broke. They switched over to a adware toolbar download system similar to what CNET or Download.com is doing. But, instead of fooling people into submission by doing it to some downloads eSnips requires ALL downloads to be through there adware downloader. Plus, I cannot delete my account, my folders or files due to bad coding on their end. Oh, and they lost an important backup of a document I was working on. Uncool in the extreme. I need a new file host. Rapidshare turns out to be pretty poor. if your file is low traffic it gets a pretty small bandwidth cap. So, if your download spikes (maybe because of a game development contest) you're SOL. Found that out the hard way during Ludum Dare 15.

I managed to download my files off of eSnips through an alternative method. I just have to find my posts accross multiple forums that reference them and change the links.. ugh.

Had reason to check out my photobucket and got a boost of development urge. I really wanna port this PC game I made onto a real console. it's a Super Pitfall retro remake:

Your "Pitfall" remake game would work on the 7800 nicely ;)

You know I come from a pampered BASIC upbringing. Is there a good C compiler, toolchain, library and IDE for 7800?

A nice C dev environment plus the fact AtariAge can produce carts is real incentive to port Super Pitfall to the 7800.

I use "C" and my own custom library for sprites, palettes, sound, joystick and XM etc on the 7800. I also have bitmap conversion tools and other utilities to make life a bit easier during development. When the XM has shipped and I've cleared a few projects I'll be able to put some time towards documentation, examples, tutorials and then making a formal release of the system.

You don't really need an IDE for "C" I use my favourite efitor and make files so its all command line driven.

Ah, that's right. I heard about your libraries. I can be patient. Sort of :)

I'll have to desecrate the Sega Genesis with a port in the meantime.

As long as you keep variable sizes to the minimum size needed for the value it has to hold then it shouldn't be too much trouble to convert/adapt the source for the 7800.

Is it a flip screen or 4 or 8 way scrolling kind of game?

There have been single screen versions of Super Pitfall as seen on the PC-88. Most, however, are like the CoCo3 version and allow smooth scrolling in all cardinal directions. Er, I'm too dense right now to figure out if 8 ways means diagonal scrolling. I've seen no limitation moving diagonal in the Coco3 or NES versions.

Without sprite rendering libraries I dunno how I could do a cc65 port. "Display list" is what I do when someone asks me what projects I've got half finished.
