AOL ends dial-up Internet Service

On this day in 2025, AOL’s dial-up Internet service officially came to an end, 34 years after its debut. While most Americans had long since switched to broadband, 2019 census data showed there were still about a quarter of a million dial-up holdouts — meaning at least that many dial-up modems were still in service at the time.
