New Jag Game in dev: JagWorm

Starcat

Recommended Posts

Hi folks !

Just in case you missed the original post:

I wish all of you a Merry Christmas !

I also have a little present for you, a sneak preview on one of my Atari Jaguar side projects, that used to be listed on the Starcat Developments site with a questionmark.

The game is called JagWorm and it's a funny, and addictive cartoon game, in which you control a worm through levels full of obstacles. Your goal is to eat all the apples in the level before time runs out and without hitting any obstacles such as rocks, thorns, bushes, water and other things.

The game features colorful cartoon graphics, save feature, lots of levels and even several different highly addictive game modes, such as the advanced game mode which I summed up above already, the classic mode, where your goal is to eat as many apples as possible without biting yourself and a very fun multiplayer mode for up to 8(!!) players at once.

The game is progressing well, however to complete it, I need your help.

The project needs talented mod musicians to create game music. If you are interested in helping out, visit the "help wanted" section of the Jagworm site. (link below leads to the site)

Check the site out and enjoy !!

Regards, Lars.

You have to have a Nokia phone mode... and only allow keypad use!

Green and dark green, in a small area in the middle of the screen...

but then a 2-player mode with 2 phone handsets would work... then

you can get Nokia to sponsor the first Jaguar games ... <wakes up>

hey lars the game looks great i like how the graphics look

any chance of the background scrolling as you play like i see how you have clouds the clouds could scroll with paralax scrolling and it'd be kewl to see the grass sway. also any chance of baddies being in the game like a little army off ants that march around to get in your way

just ideas good luck and awesome job thus far

Hi Lars!

I'm really looking forward to this one :) If it's anything like your previous releases, it should be GREAT!! 8)

I only wish i could help you out with the music. Unfortunately, the only instrument i was ever good at playing was the triangle - and i don't think it would suit the game. :D

I wish you the best of luck!

Regards,

Aleks

Hi folks !

The JagWorm site has been updated slightly with some changed on the development status. Just wanted to let you know that it's progressing.

It had a great boost in the music department from 0% to amazing 50%. Which means we are a big step further towards a finished game.

Certainly it still needs some work though, but it's progressing. :)

Enjoy.

I'm not too sure but I think Starcats is going to use the music I submitted to him Thursday.

Perhaps we can hear a sample on the web-page as a taster?

Cheers,

Haha... sounds great! Looks funny too!

Man... I got some serious ideas for animations (though which it may be a little overboard for this type of game?) but if you've ever played worms I loved the little in-between animations that took place after or before a game, that stuff was hilarious.

I can just see it now... you smack into the wall (and if it could be done quickly enough) it would show a fast and short clip of the worm just eating the apples smiling as big as possible.... getting carried away while enjoy the apple he opens his eyes again and runs smack in to the wall and falls out. Would be funny.... and maybe after your on your last life could that happen. (as if it were to happen every time it would be too repetitive and interrupt gameplay too often)

Anyhow, good luck on it Lars.... seems like you have quite a few of titles underway. :)

I don't know who ACE is, but it could be that he's the one who submitted the music. I just know his real name. I don't think I will put samples online. Once the game is a bit futher in development and more finished I might put a binary (or rather cd image) of the game online though for people to playtest.

Hi !

2 Questions:

(A)What genre will it be classified under? Will it be like Worms World Party?

(B)Where will you be selling the game? Do you have a website or something?

Thanks - Bradford.

A) I think the most fitting genre would be arcade / puzzle. It's not like worms world party. JagWorm is an updated version of the classic snake games. It features many colorful and challenging levels as well as different game modes.

B) Yes. I will be selling the game on my site once it is done.

This thread needed a bump back to the top with Matthias' Reversi thread.

I'm play testing this too, so hey, am I lucky. :-)

Hello,

So now the game was lost, apart from the proto I sent back to Lars,

and he has released (free to use, but he retains copyright, I presume),

then perhaps we could have some feedback on it for future projects?

Cheers,

JustClaws.

I can't wait 'til JagWorm is finished! I'm definately getting a copy. I bookmarked your website and nice work, Lars. I love arcade/puzzle games.

Best regards

Hello,

No luck yet with my M jaguar and JUGS

I will send you the same file, packaged as a .JAG or just .BIN file.

That is substantially different to just the file converted from COF with Filefix.

(The same version, but a dump of memory after loading, via my Alpine.)

Cheers,

JustClaws.

Another thought.

Download my BJL4JUGS (?) loader and batch file, it's on Jaguar-Homebrew

files area on Yahoo groups. I guess I released it more than 2 years ago...

You upload the BJL loader using JUGS, which is very quick as the BJL loader

is very small. Once it loads, the BJL loader takes over, and loads the game.

The PC batch file sends the BJL loader to JUGS, followed by a game/demo.

Of course you need a BJL cable making up, but it makes cuts down waiting.

Also, if the binary is incompatible with the JUGS starter, it bypasses that too.

Regards,

JustClaws.

Hello,

Some in-game photos for people without a working setup to try this lost WIP on.

Posted with exclusive permission from StarCat on AA.

I was a play-tester, among other things. ;)

These are of the menu and associated screens.

Cheers,

JustClaws.
