Rik
Just got 7800 DIG DUG.The controls for this game dont respond too well, unlike all the other versions, you can't rapidly inflate the baddies,it's worse with the pro line stick cus the side buttons have way too much travel and too springy, even for normal pumping,a real finger buster!!,that's what I've noticed, the graphics are nice, other than that, a decent port, anyone else notice this? Lord Helmet
I haven't played it it a while, but I remember Dig Dug being pretty good. The prolines suck for games where you need to rapidly press the buttons. Try it with an alternate controller
Lauren Tyler
I find it works better with an Atari 2600 joystick. (and yes the continue feature will work on it)

What? I've eliminated strings of five and six enemies all charging me at once. Rapid inflation is not only possible, but easy.

Really?with which stick?,it says in the inst.manual for rapid inflate,(on pro-line stick)press and hold the fire button,it doesnt go any faster, just eliminates having to pump. The 2600 version, and INTV version,i have no problems at all on the subject. jboypacman
I use my CX-40 controllers when playing this one(and most any other game i can).I really do not like the Pro-line controllers.

It's been quite a while since I played it but it seems like you keep moving toward the enemy while rapidly pressing and releasing the fire button. They pop really quick that way. Just holding down the fire button takes forever for them to pop.

godzillajoe
If you press the button like a maniac and push towards the enemies it's MUCH faster than just holding it. That's just not on the 7800 but all versions

Took me a second to get that one. I just got a bad case of DK Jr. I hear there's a risky operation I can have over in China that might cure me. Shawn
Try Dig Dug with the 7800 Euro joypads. They work great with the game. Yep. I seconf that motion. the CX78 is the best controller for 7800 play. Hell I think it's the best stock controller Atari ever made IMO. Chris-in-NJ
Is Dig Dug the only game where the 7800 and 2600 sounds are 100% identical? I think both versions of Joust have identical sound too. I don't have 2600 Joust any more so can't confirm this, just going by memory. atomickneedrop
Love this version of Dig Dug, although I only have this one and the 2600 version. I was very happy with the 7800 version, even if they could have done better with the system's capabilities.

I don't have 2600 Joust any more so can't confirm this, just going by memory. It wouldn't surprise me. Both the 2600 and 7800 use TIA sound, and since the sounds and music in the 2600 versions were already very good (especially considering the TIA's limitations), it only made sense to reuse them in the 7800 versions. The fact that they were all developed at GCC probably made it even easier.

Yeah, right on,I tried your suggestion and it works great,I use the atari cx-40 also, which in my opinion is the ultimate stick for me!I know all this may seem obvious suggestions, but for some reason the simplist technique can sometimes go unoticed or pop into my mind at the time of playing.
