Commodore 64 no show?

Recommended Posts

I would begin by testing the 1702 with another computer or console, just to find out if it actually works. If the monitor works with the other machine but not with the C64, try to use the C64 with a working TV set. If that doesn't work, then you know that it's the C64 that might have a problem and not the monitor.

good point. problem is, i have two 1702 monitors that i know work and still nothing. any ideas??

Silly question, are you hooking up the right cables? I don't have a 1702 but on my 1902 if I plug it up wrong I get nothing and there is a switch that I can depress that usually corrects it (but again I might just be talking out of my hat in regards to the 1702)

What type of cable are you useing? For the 64, I think there are two Video cables (excluding the RCA video port)

I'm not sure what the difference is, but one of the cables is Genney compatible (one or the other has an extra wire, I believe) and I'm sure doesn't work right if it's not hooked up righ.

Well i'm not sure as far as the type but its the one that usually comes with it. The rca ends are red, yellow, and i think white. Colored to match the plugs on the back of the 1702.

Another possibly silly question, but have you hooked the C-64 up to a television to make sure the VIC chip isn`t fried? The drive will often still acknowledge the power-up, even if the display can`t.....well, display.

If it continues not to work on another screen, open it up, push the VIC chip down to make sure it hasn`t popped out a bit, then hook it back up and turn it on without putting it back together. If you still don`t get a display, you`ll have to seek another display chip. I used to keep a baggie of them, but everything`s on my PC now (emulation was a windfall to us non-physical-stuff fetishists). I wish I`d have kept them so I could send one along, but you should be able to find a cheap one anyway, via Best Electronics (if they`re still around) or another electronic-stuff company.
