per
Well. I tried to play my Atari Lynx in the dark. I suddenly realized how bright and strong the backlight realy is, it nearly hurt my eyes! Even if the brighness turned to the lowest, I could use it as a flashlight :!: Why did they made the backlight SO bright? instead of making it dimmer to save battery lifetime? Atariman
Try playing the Lynx in direct sunlight - then think about your question.
demolithium
Try playing the Lynx in direct sunlight - then think about your question. Im in total agreement on trying to play them in direct sunlight... not easy unless you want to look like your riding the short bus... has anyone thought about changing the backlighting to a bright white led? might work better and save tons of battery life.. I would very much like to have three different brightness levels for the backlight also. I even thought of reducing the power for the tube but due to the technology I believe that it is capable of ON/OFF functionality only. I have not tried to lower the voltage yet. -- Karri

Im gonna look into that, I bet there's a way, just hopefully without having to add a momentary switch or something
atomickneedrop
Being able to have a dimmer setting to save battery life would be great, but I'm glad that they chose a bright backlight as opposed to a dim one (if it were one or the other...) +madman
It could be worse, it could have the screen that the first Gameboy Advanced had
Atari5200
also the brightness washes out the colors too, or is that just my Lynx?
+madman
No, that's normal.
+karri
No, that's normal. And unfortunately making a dimmer for fluorescent tubes is beyond my talents. Perhaps the best thing is to replace the tube with a white led array. -- Karri
semicolo
yes lcd backlight led arrays seem fairly common but maybe hard to buy in small quantities.
