strattsp
Anyone played with this? I ordered some, I'd like to see if it makes the A/V mods easier. FMS6406
A.J. Franzman
The main benefit I see is that it gives simultaneous independent Y/C (S-video) and composite outputs from Y/C inputs. It might also be useful to improve the quality of the 2600's RF output (possibly even allowing all three output forms simultaneously), BUT the chip's notch output is designed to drive a 600 ohm impedance load and I believe the 2600's RF modulator presents a much lower impedance than that. Perhaps an impedance-matching transformer could help, but then you might end up re-introducing the very distortions this chip is designed to filter out, or worse. Edited April 19, 2007 by A.J. strattsp
That was exactly what caught my eye. I just got some in the mail, but they are surface mount. I am waiting on some surfboard pads so that I can actually work with them. I'll let y'all know how it works.
bones
Strattsp, that is one seriously demented avatar...I love it!
strattsp
Alright, so I've given it my best try, and I've got nothing. I am working on a colecovision, as I am more comfortable with that mod, and I have separate Luma & Chroma both going in, but nothing coming out. The voltage on the signals actually dropped coming out of the chip. I had two basic EE classes 10 years ago, so really I just know enough to be dangerous, but not to really do a whole lot on my own. I would really like to get this chip working for both the Colecovision and the 2600, Any suggestions?
strattsp
So I have a few of these chips laying around, I have some surf boards coming in the mail, I figured it would be a snap to use this chip so I bought some extras. If anyone thinks they could implement this chip in a 2600, 5200, or colecovision, let me know, and I will send you a chip and a surfboard free of charge (as long as you share your results). I think it would be really cool to have an easy way to output composite, s-video, and RF simultaneously. Let me know, Steve
ten-four
Hi Strattsp... I'll like to try the FMS6406. But in the PDF is nothing about PAL vs. NTSC. If it is a RF power-up signal, i'm not sure on PAL, but with an RGB-signal i'll try it. The test will be on a PAL. CBS-ColecoVision. Have you tested the National LM1881 Video Sync Separator ? strattsp
I have not tried the LM1881. The FMS6406 info sheet says it is compatible with PAL. PM me your address and I'll send you a chip and a board. Hopefully it won't cost too much to send it overseas, if it does, I'll let you know.
