The Mysterious SirPaul
I just recently found a weird system at a yard sale this last weekend. It looks like a black atari 2600, yet the number on it is cx-2670. It uses a smaller cartridge slot than the 2600, and the joystick ports are completely different. The people I bought it from had no info on it. Is it a prototype? homebrew? thanks.
Chris++
That's actually a more recent console, made by Sony. It's called the PlayStation 2. No word as to its rarity or value just yet. CF
The Mysterious SirPaul
nope.. It sure isn't the PS2. It looks like the Atari 2600, except black, and it has a cartridge port, NOT a DVD-rom drive.
Albert
nope.. It sure isn't the PS2. It looks like the Atari 2600, except black, and it has a cartridge port, NOT a DVD-rom drive. Can you take a picture of it? ..Al
The Mysterious SirPaul
I'll try. I won't be able to get it for a while, though, because I don't have a digital camera or scanner.

Lemmi
the system didnt come with controllers? Maybe you can give alittle more info on what it looks like Like where is the cart slot located & where is the location of the joystick ports & is there any other written info other then cx-2670 on it? maybe we could narrow it down some more with alittle more description of the system
The Mysterious SirPaul
more info.. well, as I said, it looks like a normal Atari 2600, except black, the cartridge slot is on the normal area, except it is about 1 cm x 4 cm, give or take ( haven't measured it yet) the joystick ports are in the back, it is a 9 port one, except square instead of trapezoidal. It doesn't have the diffuculty switches, and the B&W/Color swith is replaced with "style". Also, I think it is larger than a normal Atari 2600 by about 2 inches by 3 inches. Otherwise, it looks identical.
Atari freak 1
Did you try it? Mabye it's a multi-game system with games built in and mabye the cart slot is just for looks. I don't know about the controllers.
King Atari
That's what I'm thinking, a multi-game pirate system.
The Mysterious SirPaul
ok.... I inserted a standard Atari 2600 power plug into it and turned it on, and it made a loud "Zap" noise and the power went out. I don't think I was supposed to do that.. Thomas Jentzsch
Good job, Paul! Sooo, I showed my tanks in River Raid. Where is your evidence? Or as the unmysterious Paul repeatedly said: "I don't believe you!"
Turnspike
And to boot, CX-2670 is the model number for the Atari Video Cube cart. Let's see that picture.
Chris++
No, I'm telling you, SirPaul, it's a PlayStation 2. The first models featured an old-fashioned cartridge slot, and you had to bend the CDs a little to make them fit. Try it! I'm serious! atari70s
i didnt think you could plug in a 2600 adapter to the PS2. chris i believe you even though im thinking it might be a 2600 pirate. eitehr way the ZAP wasnt a good move. how much you pay for it? The Mysterious SirPaul
it wasn't too expensive. Only $10. The people thought it was an Atari 2600, but why was such a good system goiung for so cheap?
Lemmi
Well sirpaul even if the system wont work we would all like to see a picture of it when you find the chance to get one taken of it
The Mysterious SirPaul
ok.. I finally convinced my "friend" to use his webcam. I'll try to get the pic up by today. It won't be of very good quality, though.
