General Atarian
I seemingly was stuck in the 100's for so long, I didn't think I would ever get over 200. Then it happened. Bam!...made 10 good scores at the same time that put me at 205 unique carts. It felt good to get over 200, It made me feel as if I had accomplished something meaningful. Has anyone ever felt this way? I guess the more unique title you collect the slower then finds will become. Now if "Chase the Chuckwagon" was only a rarity 2, Hmmmm. Atari freak 1
Yeah, It felt like i'd never get over 30 carts and......(suspence ) I'm still just below at 27.
MattK
I'm stuck at 16 carts right now - nothing rarer than 4. There are no thrift stores or Goodwills around where I live, and there's only one flea market that's prohibitively expensive. I'll never build a collection this way! -Frustrated Matt
AtariKen64
in 1990 when the 2600 was finaly let go i managed to get 40 games for 40 bucks, some 5's and 7's as well
fmctm1sw
My collection is rather lame but it's kind of diverse. I guess I got about 50 atari 2600 games. I know where there are about 100 more around town but I'm not spending $3 a piece on commons. I got ataris, intellivision, colecovision, old computers and games for all of them. I just got on an 8 bit kick when my neighbor moved out and gave me a boxed atari 800 with a disk drive and other stuff.....
Rob Mitchell
I peaked out at 230 different original 2600 titles .. Now I have the Cuttle Cart .. and I guess I'm not as obsessed with more carts. Sure if I came across titles I don't yet have at a reasonable price, I'll pick them up. I had a chance to get HeMan cart for $5 at a flea .. but too much. I did pick up Thunderground in a trade some months ago. Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA
ATARIPITBULL
My only problem is stoping my self from spending too much money on my 2600 collection, I am getting to the point where the only games that I don't have in my collection are the ones going for over $80 a piece, so things are costing a lot more then they did when I first started. krisjohn
I think I worked out that I've got just under 50 Atari 2600 carts, but I collect so many other systems as well that I can't really tell if I haven't picked up something for one particular platform in a while. I must have well over 400 games by now. A few months back I did also start collecting "interactive fiction" (or gamebooks) like the Choose Your Own Adventure series because I was having a hard time picking up any new old games. Then a local chain started liquidating DC titles, then I picked up a PS2... I still keep the book list with me, but it's getting hard to find any sort of interesting anything. I've just started hitting the "Good Sammy" and similar charity/thrift/Op shops. There's some seriously old stuff in some of those. This is after pretty much draining all the pawnbrokers and weekend swap-meets for about 100km in any direction.
Marco(2)
If you branch out, there's no plateaus up to 2,000 or so. Brazilian, Taiwanese, Australian and European pirates will keep you going for years and years, and they're not even that hard to come by - the supply is overwhelming! Cheers, Marco
Heavy Sixer
I'm wondering if I'm not currently experiencing a plateau... My usual hunting spots have dried up, and I haven't found many carts or consoles this year, at least not as many as in previous years. This year, I've found two consoles and only a handful of games. My total cartridge count is stuck somewhere between 1100 and 1200. The closest thing to a rare cartridge I found this year was Beat 'Em & Eat 'Em with the vinyl case. The cart was in mint condition, but it didn't have the manual. (Come to think of it, a game like that doesn't really need a manual; the title is rather self-explanatory... ) But I digress. I found a poor, lonely Pac-Man all by itself a few weeks ago. I felt sorry for it, so I paid a dollar and brought it home. I did find about seven carts at a Salvation Army; mostly common ones, with Space Shuttle and Commando thrown in. I'm hoping the supply improves at some point. In the meantime, I've been focusing on my arcade machines. I've nearly finished restoring my Kangaroo machine; Pengo and Xevious are next. Cassidy Nolen
My only problem is stoping my self from spending too much money on my 2600 collection, I am getting to the point where the only games that I don't have in my collection are the ones going for over $80 a piece, so things are costing a lot more then they did when I first started. Man is that ever true! I also find that there is a point that I "lose focus". The new Star Wars movie came out, and I temporarily took my fun money and bought all the new guys from the movie. That took a month or so to round them up, and then I came back to 2600. With other systems, I just get them as I find them. I would say 2600 is the only system I actively collect for. I honestly do not know how many more games I want, really cant keep them all looking neat now. Also am at the point where I do not want any more unboxed carts. My loose ones are easier to store, but I love looking at the boxes. Cassidy
DuckandCover
Seems like I've been stuck in the 100's for the past year or so. Of course, part of that has been attributable to having to devote a lot of time to other things besides cart collecting. Just lately, I've had a resurgence. In the last month I've come across twelve unique additions to my collection. So, things are looking up!
MattyXB
I have now 464 cartridges for Atari 2600 VCS and will get more in the future. And I waiting to get ca. 20 cartridges soon. I hope I will soon have 500 cartridges, thats a good collection I think.
rolenta
I have 479 2600 carts (+ all 55 Sears carts). I have no hope of ever finding the remaining NTSC carts that I need. Now I concentrate on getting all the games that are released at CGE.
Ze_ro
I think I hit my plateau a few months ago... it seems now that the only way I get really good stuff is if I resort to eBay. The only stuff I can find in the wild now is Genesis and NES stuff, which hardly satisfies my Atari urges.. --Zero
dwh
There's a Plateau!?But seriosly,I,m stuck on getting the last three sears text label carts that I'm missing. Also been looking for boxed/sealed games--for the last two weeks, nothing, then 'bam' I win a bin lot of Imagic boxed games
Markimus of K.
Well, I just got my 124th unique today, (it was Casino) so it would seem I'm ahead of some and behind a lot of you guys. I'm not yet into the label variations and such, but that could change. Do I count a label variation as one or two carts? If that's the case then I have a lot more than 124 (hey that rhymes!) Markimus of K. aka NUMBER 3! ps: General Atarian: I only need one more cart for my next certificate! How many members are we up to? And who beat me to #2? Assuming of course that you are number 1 (and you are Herr General!)
KAZ
I've been stuck in the 80's for longer than I can remember Lite Brite, Heman, Transformers, GI Joe!! Oh, you meant collecting? That's where I'm at with Atari 2600 carts also. I've had an intense shortage of money lately, so I haven't done any collecting in about a month. My last big "score" was at The Midwest Classic. That is if you can call buying 6 shrinkwrapped 2600 games a "score". I was satisfied with my haul.
