edweird13
I just bought a rebuilt gold controller and i cannot get the top fire buttons to work. I had the same problems with my old controllers. Could this be a problem with the board? And can it be fixed with out buying a replacement board. It is a 2 port system.

ApolloBoy
I had the exact same problem with my 5200. I remember swapping out a chip, but I forget what exactly it was.

I wonder how hard it would be to get said chip and how much it costs.
+Mitch
Hmm, maybe the Pokey chip? If so I think they usually run about $5. Mitch
edweird13
is this a socketed chip and if so could I pull it out of my 7800 beef drop and try it?
+Mitch
It should be socketed on the 5200 but I doubt it is on your Beef Drop cart. If you have an old Atari computer you could borrow one from there. Mitch
Artlover
I've had simmilar problems on my 5200's, and it's always been the 4052 analog mux/demux chips that had failed.

ApolloBoy
Where can i get one of there chips? I didn't buy a new one. IIRC, I swapped out the faulty 4052 with a working one in the system that controlled controller ports 3 and 4. EDIT: Here's the original thread that solved my problem. ApolloBoy
Im just gonna get a new board from Best Electronics. Why do that? Just swap the chips as I did and you can get your 5200 up and running without spending anything.
