Lifeguard
Hi All, My first time here so please bear with me. I just signed up today after a great flea market Atari buying weekend. For all of $20 dollars I picked up a boxed 2600, paddles, joysticks, wireless joystick setup and 20+ games, a Sega Genesis with 3 games and controllers and my "New" 7800 with 4 7800 games. Well, everything works except for my 7800. Sytem is used but appears in good shape. I can't get the system to start up. It didn't come with a cable from the 7800 to the switchbox. I tried a NES switch/cable setup with no results. The power LED lights up but nothing comes on my TV. The switchbox from the 2600 works fine on that system but no luck with the 7800. A seperate RCA cable I had also didn't work with the Atari 2600 switchbox. Hitting the "power" button makes the tv picture fuzzy but stays there; no game coming across. Do I need a different cable besides a standard RCA to go between the 7800 and TV setup? Anyone have any ideas? Once I track down Indy 500 and Canyon Bomber life will be good again... Thanks... tyranthraxus
I'm surprised that no one responded to your post sooner. My first suggestion is to check that the 7800's channel setting is correct. Try switching TV channels on your set to see if that gets you a picture. Second NES style switchboxes will not work with Atari so use the one that worked for your 2600. As for the cable here is a trick. Since you know the 2600 cable is good, you can use that one! How? Well if you unscrew the 2600 (prepare to find a lot of dust) you will see that the built in cable actually unplugs inside the case. So hook that one up and let us know how you make out. BTW the 7800 power supplies are worth about $20 on ebay so that was a great find! John
Lifeguard
Thanks for the suggestions. After a bit more trial and error I got the 7800 working again. Must have been the channel selector switch that gave me trouble to start with. Time to start looking for some new games - old favorites actually. Thanks for the help and I will see you on the message boards. John
