djmat
Hi all Have just successfully managed to solder the Ape Warp OS upgrade into my 130XE to compliment the SIO2PC connection and 1050 US Doubler enhanced drive. What can i do now that i have all this set up? I have tried loading disk images from the pc and it does fly at ultra speed but what i really want to know is what i can do with the 1050 drive. I have tried formatting disks with sector skew on but they don't seem to load any faster. Sounds higher pitched but no faster. What software utilities do you recommend to get the best out of the 1050?

What software utilities do you recommend to get the best out of the 1050? Your description suggests that the disks are *not* formatted with Ultra-Skew. What Dos or other program are you using to format the disks? Probably the easiest way to format your disks in Ultra-Skew is to use SpartaDos (XINIT.COM), selecting the option for Ultra-Skew. If you are not a Sparta user, then after you have formatted the disk, you can write a new directory and VTOC with MyDos, using /N option when specifying the drive to be formatted -- e.g. "2/N". Then MyDos will only write out the new directory and VTOC without actually re-formatting the tracks. This will then be compatible with most other Atari-type Doses in 720-sector mode. SpartaDos 3.2g was a shareware release and MyDos 4.50 is a freeware Dos. Basically what i'm looking for, if it exists, is some form of multi-boot type of menu which i can create disks similar to the many other multi boot systems but that will load in ultra speed. Have tried copying existing menu disks onto discs formatted with ultra-skew. The menu loads at ultra speed but then, when selecting the game, it loads at either normal speed or slower than normal. Does such a multi boot for ultra speed exist?
