Holmes Collection

The Holmes collection cuts off around the year 2002, IIRC. What would be the best way to begin an addendum? Make a master database of MD5SUMs for the Holmes collection and compare new candidate files against the list?

Ooh yeah!!! Holmes 2.0 DVD with .ATX's and all the other extra stuff not in there added...

Let's do it!!!

Seconded. I still can't D/L #2 & 3 from langesite, but that torrent of CD #1 came through nice and quick. :D I'm still seeding that one, in case someone hasn't grabbed it yet. ;) Don't make me beg. :)

OK, I'm begging you--please, please, please...

Well I don't know what the "intention" of the holmes collection is. But it sure could use a little cleaning up. For example it contains several basic games that were converted to "bootable" ATR's. Thing is the person who did it forgot to include any supplemental DOS files that some of the basic games happen to need.

Yes and it seems I'm not the only whiner, who just happens to just want to make things easier for everyone. But if you wanna go against the grain about it and waste even more bandwidth (I'm glad you have so much), then be my guest. As was pointed out if someone had already downloaded the original zip they could have seeded right away without having to "redownload" the file.

I was merely trying to suggest more effecient methods for dealing with the torrent cause I've seen people like YOU do stuff like that and all it did was create more confusion. Everywhere I've gone people specifically make it a point not to fool around with the original format for very specific reasons. And those that do usually get in trouble for doing so. Seeding my own zip file would be as about as counterproductive as you changing the format. But if you wanna continue to be an ass about it, that is fine with me. :P I'll just leave the seeding to you since you are so good at it.

Bfollet... it sounds like (if you have a router, that is) that you do not have your port forwarding set up properly. If it is not set properly you will have difficulty connecting with other people. The other possibility is that your ISP blocks the ports typically used by torrents.

So I guess this isn't torrentzipped then. I have the archives for all three and could zip the CDs up to seed, but if there's no matching hashes that would be rather pointless.

Well I wasn't gonna mention torrentzip because that might be a little too complicated for some people (gotta love those mamesets). But I do believe that all Bill did was just "zip" the original discs.

I do agree a few more seeders would have been nice, but the fact of the matter is, is, if you've already downloaded it, hey fine, you just leeched off of Bill. However, I also made a torrent for that first CD using my favorite method of archiving. As it's a torrent I created, I can distribute it any way I see fit. If it was such a big deal, like I said before. Make your own damn torrent for that "original" .zip. And what's the problem with re-archiving? Are you somehow stating that I am incompetent and might have not included any files? It's all there, as yes, that's all Bill did was .zip the directories on his server.

And yes... I admit to being a dick... A rather big one in fact... If you don't want responses like that, don't post a reply whining about what I've done. If it's not good enough, download it elsewhere... Oh yeah, that's right... The "original" takes 3 days to download one .zip...

And PLUS... ANYONE THAT DOWNLOADED THE .zip OFF OF LANGESITE DIDN'T HAVE ANY INTENTION OF SHARING ANYWAYS. IF THAT WAS THE CASE THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN TORRENTS POSTED A WEEK OR TWO PRIOR TO ME. IT WAS ONLY UNTIL SOMEONE MENTIONED THE IDEA OF TORRENT THAT PEOPLE STARTED JUMPING ON BOARD THAT EVERYONE DECIDED: HEY, THAT'S A GOOD IDEA. I'LL HELP SEED. NO... I MADE SURE THAT IF YOU LEECHED OFF OF BILL IN THE FIRST PLACE, THAT WOULD NOT HAPPEN, AS YOU WOULD BE NOW LEECHING OFF OF ME.

Good job buddy... Anybody else wants torrents they can do it themselves. The whiny little bastard that just didn't know when to shut up can make the torrents for you as he seems to have the .zip that was downloaded from Bill's server. Oh yeah, usually if people that change the format of something that they download and re-distribute, they usually know what the fuck they are doing dumb-ass... You don't like what I did, fine... The torrent has been removed, any body else just go to Langesite and download this original .zip that he's been crying about. You did what you accomplished: made it easy for everyone...

Well, as the saying goes... You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all the people all the time... Kick a gift-horse in the mouth, and it usually doesn't stick around...

All you had to do was ask me to change it, as I still have that .zip, instead of criticizing and whining... I never respond well to that Shannon, ya twat...

Its a shame a thread like this turned sour I for one was appreciative of the efforts

BIG deal The Archiver wasnt the standard to some or one

I used WinAce and it opened right up ooooo how tough just about all the 3rd party archivers out there open multiple archive types

dwhyte-- I hope ya reconsider and post the torrents to Disks 2 and 3 Most of us are appreciative dont let 1 bad apple spoil the works

I'll think about it... Or more likely, I may send them privately. I've also deleted that torrent off the torrent site as well, just for the people that were going to do a search...

I'm not bitter one bit though. I just think it's funny that someone wanted to criticize rather than rectifying his problem himself. If he REALLY wanted to seed, he REALLY could have made his own torrent. Oh well... He just burned that "quick-download bridge" down for everyone for the time being... We never needed Shannon seeding anyways...

Is it just me or is that Holmes CD 1 above on eBay fresh off the burner...

I'd like to apologize to everyone on this site, except Shannon, for my actions on this thread.

hold on, I've got all three in .zip.

I'm just from new orleans so we'll have to give me a few hours to recover first.

BTW, this morning's antivirus choked on #3 saying it was dirty. It's probably a false positive, but just an FYI. I'll have more info about what AVG freaked on when I post torrents... Seems like #1 is the stuff most of us are after, but they'll all be up in ~3hrs.

You da man... No wait... You da Reaperman...

Thanks... And for everyone that downloaded my torrent. The contents of the one Repearman will be posting for CD1 contains the exact same data when extracted upon successfull completion...

Funny that AVG found virii in #3. Though, there is some executeable content for PCs on #3 IIRC. I just don't get why Microsoft doesn't take a cue from Apple. Use a UNIXish type core and throw their interface on top of that. I'd love to see Microsoft and Linux be friends. With a Linux core and Microsoft interface, maybe using WINE or Cedega much like Apple used Rosetta, we'ld have some kick-ass PCs without the virii and spyware (though some creative hackers would find a way around it, they always do)...

If you have (or are going to) zip the three collections into three zips, can you run trrntzip on the zip files? It ensures consistent CRC hashing so those of us who have (or can make) identical zips can join the torrent and start seeding at 100% without having to download. I've got some considerable bandwidth that I can lend for a while if so.

Also I found that Norton picked up a trojan in the Holmes2 collection. It didn't like the keygen program that is included with Hex Workshop. Kaspersky says nothing, so it's probably Norton being an ass.

SO TRUE WELL THANKS FOR SHOWING THAT YOU ARE ONE OF THE TWAT'S THAT DOWNLOADED IT FOR KEEPS AND EVEN GOING AS FAR AS TO DANGLE THE CARROT IN FRONT OF EVERYONE'S NOSE AND THEN PULL IT A WAY. GOOD SHOW BOY, GOOD SHOW. A DICK, AND PREDICTABLE AT THAT.

Brilliant I may say... While your at it why don't you remove those illegal movie torrents you created as well.

Everyone bow down before the great dwhyte.. who sold his Atari for a C64 and then decided to keep it anyways.

edit: hold on a second for trrntzip...

I just read your and Remo's posts... That's all I wanted earlier... Awesome you two, very awesome...

You sure? I hope there's no virii in this set. I have no need of virus protection so I've never checked. It wouldn't surprise me though that some ancient virus might be in some of the PC apps in the set. I wouldn't shrug it off about the Virus Protection finding something... A keygen is a very likely place for a virus to reside...

Another reason that the "original" .zips should not be used. If there's warning bells going off in a few people anti-virus programs, then why take a chance and distribute those virii? It'd be nice if we can contain those before the seeding begins...

Sure, I'll take reponsibility, but not blame. You my friend, are the reason for the carrot being removed and carrots 2 and 3 not being posted as was made clear to everyone in the posts above...

So you were checking out my stuff, eh? Did you manage to download those and watch them on a Nintendo DS for which they are encoded? If you did then you'ld know that those 3 movies I've ripped are the highest quality movies ever shared for a DS to this date (compare mine to other .dpg's out there). Can you make such a claim? And when does movies for the Nintendo DS have anything to do with what was on this thread. Keep reaching... Though, I may have to remove them now seeing as you decided to be a FUCKING SNITCH on an open forum... Nice job... I'm glad we're seperated by the internet... You wouldn't want to meet me in person now that you've done what you've done... Or maybe we will meet one day... I'm actually hoping that we do as I like to hold grudges... But then again, you're probably the kind of pussy that would press charges. You are a snitch, a rat, counter-productive to any type of file sharing by what you've proved on this thread.

I knew there would be someone else putting up the torrents... Makes me laugh that you never did though. You're one of them guys that's all talk and no action... Truly you are a dumb-ass... It was a C=128 so I could write a program that uses both the 8502 and Z80... A true 8bitter would know the difference between a 64 and 128. And I never sold it, it was a trade... You should get that reading malfunction of yours checked out...

I was waiting for your response dumb-ass. Who's the predictable one now... You should be honored, as you're the first person on the intersurf that I've ever considered an enemy... Go fix your C code, loser...

it is #2 with the issues, not 3 as I had stated earlier

trrntzip is taking a while. 1&3 went smooth, but 2 is being a problem. I'm thinking I'm going to kill those keygens, or at least do *something* to them. Trrntzip is choking, and when I try to rezip (probably defeating the purpose of trrntzip) I get 'access denied' issues with them.

Right now, I'm re-trrntzipping #2 and it's going *real* slow after the rezip--I'm down to the 'd's. Sorely tempted just to torrent the original without trrntzip... In any case, below is 1&3.

Remo, if you've got #2 and it's able to run through trrntzip, I say we use yours--if not I can throw my possibly crazy rezipped version up early tomorrow (everything seems to unzip fine, even with the errors).

of course let me know if there are issues with these. Again, I've never made a torrent, and for all I know my client isn't set up to provide the proper speed on the initial share, but I am seeding.

Ugh. If I'd known it would start such a $#!+storm, I'd never have suggested torrents...

As far as the potential virus thing goes... what is it, a DOS keygen for an ancient piece of software? Probably should just remove it. Likely it wouldn't be useful to anyone in 2008 even if it weren't infected.
