It only takes a minute or so in google to find amiga pirate warez, so I don't see that scene as really any better.

Why not use your own logic and code it for the amiga and guarantee yourself payment. lol

Myself I do buy Atari software, cd-rom driver, hard disk driver, backup software, etc. stuff that actually does something productive that I may use for quite sometime. A game however I find myself bored with after a short time, can't see buying them at this point. I have several already I don't play, that I dropped cash on.

I would prefer people code more useful things that help keep the platform in the main stream, something that's never been done before. Like a working AOL, MSN, or Yahoo client. A VNC server would be cool. That's the sort of stuff I'd pay for.

I apologize for not using simple Americanstyle English.

* Paradize games are available for FREE.

* Visit out website and feel free to download anything you like.

* I repeat: NO MONEY IS CHARGED!

* If anyone charges you money for stuff by Paradize, you have been ripped off!

If someone wants to make money with Atari ST software, go ahead. But do not include any Paradize productions then.

I'm not looking to make a profit so don't make this into something it's not.

I made it very clear that money is not important so there is no need for me to repeat myself.

Well okay, this is getting a bit hairy now.

Everyone should calm down, retrogeek should write his games, produce a demo or a youtube video or whatever, and let people decide whether or not to buy it.

I wouldn't ask for a thread lock yet, but I'm afraid the posts are blowing out of proportion....

Hey, I am just defending myself! I believe this thread should be locked before it gets any worse.

 Move aside! The superior race has entered the room! lol

What is that supposed to mean?

It means Simmon boy needs to come down off his perch; he's no better than anyone else.

OK, I'll just say that this is the first time I see Godwin's law applied in these forums.. Interesting

How did I know you were going to type that? You're an anti-American bigot Christos; you've proven your bigotry time and time again. Yes, you're a bigot! Sunnyboy is no different with his Americanstyle English comment. There is nothing special about any of you; you’re human beings just like the rest of us. It's no secret that Europeans speak 'proper' English but that doesn't give you the right to ridicule someone that lives in the U.S.

If I was going to apply Godwin's law I would have said 'Master' race you stupid fool; don't you know anything? No, wait -- I keep forgetting that you're hell-bent on discrediting me for some reason. My thread was non-confrontational; I asked a simple question and expected answers. The people who turned this into a flamewar should be ashamed of themselves.

There is one thing you need to learn about me: I NEVER back down from a fight.

Bigot? Care to elaborate? Did I say anything anti-american? I honestly can't remember that. Please find the times and times again that I said so. BTW I don't approve SSB's comment either. I am interested. Hell-bent on discrediting you? How so? The only thing I ever wrote "against" you, was that you don't know anything about the ST community, which you admitted, right? Of course you called me a troll... And now a stupid fool... Fascinating!

If I was going to apply Godwin's law I would have said 'Master' race you stupid fool; don't you know anything?

OK, let's indulge you that it wasn't a Nazism reference. But if it wasn't a racist comment but personal, why did you use the word race and not person or man or anything? Would you care to elaborate on that?

Thank you.

BTW, how did you reach the conclusion that I consider myself superior to anyone? Can you find the referance?

It was your attitude and not necessarily what you wrote.

Yes I would! I was referring to the people in this thread that have been acting holier than thou (i.e. the ones who are picking on American English) -- people who believe they belong to a higher caliber of society.

I called you a stupid fool for thinking that after introducing myself to this board -- and showcasing what I want to do for the community -- that I would turn around and call someone a Nazi. That would be a great way to get banned from the board. Maybe I should have made the comment in a separate post to prevent any misunderstandings from springing up. Live and learn I suppose.

BTW, how did you reach the conclusion that I consider myself superior to anyone? Can you find the referance?

It's the way you carried yourself in the thread.

The poll(s) specifically asks about 'purchase' and 'pay', ie: money. Seems to me you really want to know if it will generate money.

Anyway, release the stuff as donation-ware, the ones that care will send money, the ones that don't, won't.

I've known Simon for sometime, Christos a bit less. Both have always been polite and friendly since our first encounters on IRC. We also share coding techniques at times. Your accusations are false.

There's also a good chance you could spend months on a game and it winds up being less than stellar anyway. No one wants it, no money changes hands. Then this entire thread is all for not. It could happen. lol

I've made my point already in previous posts (which apparently isn't sinking in on your end; you're still stuck on the poll and what you believe it all means) so if you want to keep beating a dead horse then be my guest.

He had no right making that simple Americanstyle English comment; if this is your definition of nice then I'd rather not deal with people like him (or with you for that matter).

Take care.

I agree it's become a dead horse, only because you deem it so and don't want to retract anything you have said. Oh, and I'm not allowed to reply or defend myself. How quaint. I'm from the US as a matter of fact, and I got exactly what Simon said in his post the first go round, it's your smug reply which prompted the reply you don't like. A vast majority of people place information about what they do in their signature. Very common practice. You was not able to connect the dots, not only a noob to the ST, but apparently a noob to the net/forums as well. Had you attempted to click his link, you would have seen he is a member of Paradize. ;-P Let me guess, to much work...

Turn on the user ignore feature then, if you don't want to see replies. Or beg the powers to be to lock the thread.

Cat got your tongue?

You are more than welcome to defend yourself!

I wasn't aware (at first) of the rules that govern this message board. Thank you for bringing them to my attention. You need to realize that placing your project information in your signature isn't common on other message boards. Each community has its own set of rules, and since the rules are different here, I have no problem with abiding by them.

My question is why weren't these rules brought to my attention at the beginning of this thread? Plus, a simple, non-confrontational post explaining why the community would refuse to purchase ST software would have been far better received than what was written by Christos and the others. As senior members of the Atariage community (and this can be said about any message board community), they should have been a bit more understanding of the situation since I am new here. They could have posted something a bit more constructive, like explaining the way things work around here so I wouldn't make the same mistake twice. This would have prevented a lot from happening.

not only a noob to the ST, but apparently a noob to the net/forums as well.

I haven't owned an ST in a very long time (my other threads in the ST /TT forums clearly state I am new to certain aspects of the ST computer) so I am not ashamed to admit it. As for the message board comment: please see above.

You have also responded to some of my ST queries and for that I am grateful.

This is my 2cs.

Edit: I agree that I could have acted differently in some of my posts (I won't argue this with anyone), but also realize that I was treating them the same way they were treating me (as wrong as it may have been).

Well I don't wish to fight with anyone, that's never my goal. But since it's a public forum we open ourselves up to constructive criticism especially if one makes a post, and ends it with... what do you think... or a poll or both.

It started out as that anyway, people trying to advise you that the comparison to the 2600 scene is wrong. Hardware versus software releases. That just don't compare well. Injecting any comparisons to the amiga into it almost always does not help and trying to gauge it from a poll with only 13 votes ain't exactly reflective of the Atari community.

However any contribution to the platform is good. Free or otherwise. But this platform has for the most part a zero commercial market. The handful of remaining dealers are just selling off old stock (mostly at outrageous 1980 prices) that's collection dust and/or dumping on ebay, so people tend to either avoid paying entirely or they don't want to pay much at all. Why by a product at such a high price, knowing it's unsupported after the sale because the original company has vanished? This is the logic that has been slowly eating away at the community. It has been this way for sometime. I have some ShareWare myself and I do keep track of the registrations and they are extremely low. Anything over $10 seems to be pushing it, trust me.

Actually your poll/thread would of went a whole lot better with some different wording.

Poll: Is anyone interested in fresh new games for the ST? [yes] [no]

If yes:

Poll: How should new games be released? [free] [domationware] [shareware] [demo/pay] [opensource] [other]

And then just let the readers voluntarily post what they might be willing to pay instead of some fixed values.

As for the rules governing forums and other means of posting. I don't agree. I was not advising you about the rules governing this board. My comment was meant to be applied generally "to all boards I've ever used past and present". I've never seen any restrictive rules about signatures on any forums and/or paid any attention to them. I've never had an admin tell me I could not use a link to my projects on any site. Since my first day on the internet, my signature has always been a link to my projects regardless of where I post. You would have to find the Terms of Service for this board and site the proper paragraph regarding signature content. But my experience is this... some people put strange and humorous comments in theirs, some put nothing, the rest put links. Those links are almost always to their own personal sites or company regardless of what forum I happen to be on. This applies to usenet as well, been using that for many years to. My guess is the only time the admin would have an issue with a signature is if it contained inappropriate language or porn images of some kind. :)

I did use one board that did require the link be verified by admin, before they could be used. I guess so the links don't point to warez or porn, etc.. in case kids surf the forums.

One other thing, since it's global, you sometimes get people who might reply where English is not their native language. I've learned over the years that sometimes they do have trouble selecting the right words or mis-phrase things a bit. Sometimes they can even come off sounding a bit terse by accident. If you find a reply confusing, it's best to ignore it, or respond simply with "Can you please rephrase that or elaborate on that, I'm lost". This can save tons of time and confusion. I know, I've been there. ;)

Btw, the dev link on your site is broken, I had a look the other day.

Anyway, good luck with the releases.

The 2600 analogy was a bad idea, I agree, and I learned my lesson. :) It's really upsetting to hear that current Atari dealers are expecting 1980 prices for their software / equipment. I believe someone in a different thread commented on this very same point.

In retrospect, the poll should have been worded differently and I agree with your points. Looking back at the initial poll questions, I can see how they could be misconstrued as something arrogant and / or invading. Being a month old to the board I can see how people could be skeptical. Plus there's the entire Retrogeek / Doom Master scenario which was a nothing more than a misunderstanding, but that, too, was blown out of proportion. I plan on staying away from polls for the time being. I will take your advice (if I ever decide to produce a poll about my projects) and word things much differently so not to repeat what has happened already.

If it's any consolation I did not confuse you with "that other guy". lol I don't make any assumptions about handles or nicknames since there are just too many people on the net, names are bound to be re-used over and over.

I'm not saying all remaining dealers are this way, but the majority of them with the largest inventories seem to be doing this. Like 50 to 75 bucks for a floppy drive is really insane when we all know it's a generic off the shelf part. :-P

Anyway are you just doing the music (saw the other thread) for these games or some coding as well? I went to the site looking for more detailed information but the dev link didn't work. Though maybe the missing page would state who was doing what and what tools are being used to make them. It says "our projects" so I take it more than one person is involved?

If you have technical questions about coding on the ST I would recommend: http://www.atariactive.com/viewforum.php?f=16

Yes another forum. lol This forum seems a bit generic in nature, this other forum has some specific coding sections along with some very knowledgeable programmers.

I am actually responsible for the entire project, including music, code, and graphics. I have a few friends who have been lending their expertise on 68000 programming so they are contributing to the project but in a different way. I am still in the process of redesigning the website so I held off on publishing the Dev page, but it will be up soon!

If you have technical questions about coding on the ST I would recommend:

This is appreciated! I can use a resource like this one!
