gklinger
Came across a mention of the Atari 800 at Boing Boing and thought it worth mentioning here. Check out Atari user's desk, circa 1983. Nice setup.
Kripto
And if you get bored while using your Atari 800, you can just change the channel on your 'monitor' and watch something else!

I haven't been an Atari 8 bit user for long but the thought of getting bored while using an Atari seems absurd.

I haven't been an Atari 8 bit user for long but the thought of getting bored while using an Atari seems absurd. You know I never gotten bored when using my 130XE. I had (still have) both XE and C128. After playing games on my C128, it just sat there waiting for new games. But even after games, the XE was used all the time, Print Shop, Newsroom, RAMbrandt, WP, digitising, music, editing a fanzine....never got on with those things on C64. Prodos8
I wonder if the original pic was b&w as that really makes it seem dated. Nice though.
phaxda
That's inspirational right there... I think I am going to take the 800 out of my closet and give it desk status. Sweet.
Bumzyman
Cool, I saw this on Digg this morning and got a good smile out of it. Looks similar to my first setup.
joplinatari
I've got that exact same early '80s vintage Sony 13" TV that I use with my Atari 400 & 800 setups. Couldn't ask for a better monitor. The picture and color quality of their early sets rivals many of the modern CRT sets.
Goochman
My desk looked similar but never that neat
Cybernoid
That looks like Dr. Clu's setup today.

Forrest
That picture looks staged - my computer desk never was that clean And who would leave their Atari 410 cassette player connected when two Atari 810 disk drives are available?
Kripto
It's the old 'posed desk' shot. I've been guilty in the past... Indicative of 'setup pride'. Wish I had one of my old Apple II setup...
classics
Love this picture, its my new wallpaper. I think I have those RotJ glasses somewhere long with some Popeye and Pac-Man sets too. MEtalGuy66
This was the setup that I used "back in the 80s"... I still have it. My father and I built the wooden enclosure out of an old board we found laying around in the basement, and the top from a school-desk. He asked me about it last time I visited him, so I guess he's still proud of it. One day, maybe I'll clean it up and put another coat of varnish on it. It's solid wood. Assembled with dado-joints, glue, and counter-sunk screws. Pretty indestructable.

Maybe, maybe not. There are some houses that are spotless like that all over, all of the time. Edited April 8, 2008 by Ross PK

Yeah, I had those RotJ glasses too. I wonder if my Mom has those boxed up somewhere....
guyjin
This was the setup that I used "back in the 80s"... I still have it. Clearly some quality woodwork... but did you have to crown it with a commiedor monitor?
Urchlay
Clearly some quality woodwork... but did you have to crown it with a commiedor monitor? What else was he supposed to do? Atari never made us a monitor for the 8-bits...
+Philsan
Atari should have sold at least this announced monitor (XC1411): Edited April 9, 2008 by Philsan
