TT030 compatibility and capacities

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I bought an Atari TT030, and i am discovering it. I immediatly try to launch some games and programs.

I see that the atari ST games aren't not compatible with, i tried to launch 'backwards' program which allow to play ST games on Falcon but of course it doesn't work.

The only game i played on is Wolfenstein 3D, there is also the Doom port, but the files are too heavy to be transfered on the TT030 by the floppy disk (the doom wad file for example), so i can't try it.

I registered here too get information, i have a lot of questions!

Is there a way to play ST games on it?

If i buy a SB25 to SCSI CT50 cable, can I connect a external SCSI CD Rom drive and recognize it with a driver?

Are all the cd drive brand compatible with?

(It could be a way to transfert heavy files, Doom, and try for example the 'Aniplayer' to listen mp3).

I saw that a lot of others OS exist for the atari 32 bits computers (netbsd, mint, magic,Xaes,.....) but as i am just discovering all of these capacities, so i don't understand anything

It will be also exciting to go on the web with the TT030, i saw that few web explorer exist. I have an internet connection at home, how can i bring it to the atari?

As i have an atari STe since a long time, with tons of programs, i was happy to get this TT030, i think that this is a excelent computer, but i don't know what to do on! All is incompatible! It's quite disappointing

Applications are not incompatible, most games are. Some games have been patched for TT compatibility. For transfering files you can use a null modem cable and ghostlink. Also for internet access you can use some of the following solutions:

Ethernec/Netus Bee: Cartridge port ethernet solution

Ethernea: ACSI port

Daynalink: SCSI port

SLIP/PPP: null modem.

For the last one check this

I think that a friend of me have this null modem cable (it was the cable used to connect two atari ST for multiplayer games?)

I will try it, but it seems to be quite complex. On the link you sent it explains how to do on the PC, but how to do on the TT030 to recognize it?

The videos of your computer in your signature are incredible, is it your computer for the Mint XaAES video?

There are 3 videos. Two are mine (the bad ones) the other is from a CT63 falcon. Read the descriptions. And I also describe it for the Atari. In the blog you can also find the same thing for Sting (single TOS tcp/ip stack). All is explained, I hope well.

EDIT: A null modem cable is an industry standard, I even found one in a supermarket a year or so ago.

I ve done some researches about TT030 games.

I found some games, i notice the website where i found it for everyone who is searching sofwares for a TT030.

- Wolfenstein 3D : http://freenet-homepage.de/ray.tscc/wolf3d.htm

- Doom, heretic, hexen, quake port : http://pagesperso-orange.fr/patrice.mandin/fr/port-jeux.html

(i can't test it yet because the wad files are too heavy to be transfered by floppy disk, and now i don't have other way to do).

- Scummvm, GB emu (i can't play it, doesn't work don't know why) : at the same adress

- Here some games converted for TT030 and falcon : http://www.klapauzius.net/Old_Games.html

- Here again some games only for Falcon, they don't work on TT030 except Frontier:Elite 2 (and perhaps some others) : http://atariforce.free.fr/f030j1.htm

- The legend of gemda : http://atarilegend.com/games/games_detail.php?game_id=5732

- Mercenary 2 Damocles and Mercenary 3 ! Running perfect on TT030 : http://www.geocities.com/Paris/7150/mfalcon.htm

- Some last Dbug compilations, they made some games running on TT030, i tried Croisière pour un cadavre (cruise for a corpse) and Gaunlet 3 it was working. Unfortunately most of these new compil are especially for the Falcon. As the Dbug website doesn't exist anymore i've found last Dbug compil here : http://www.dhs.nu/dbnews.php?sd=2008-01-01&ed=2008-12-31

It's a long search in the tons of news posted these last years.

- On the same site i found the port of reminiscence for TT030 to play Flashback

- Monkey Island (st version) is working great, and it's possible to install it on hard drive! I think that indiana jones (the same developper as monkey island) should also work, but i have not tested it yet.

Please if you know others games patched or port who run on TT030 please let me know!

Forget MP3. The 32 mhz 030 is not strong enough for that purpose.

The only Atari to play MP3 files is the Falcon that has a DSP.

There have been DSP boards for the TT as well, but they are very rare and heavily expensive. Also they are said to be working quite unstable.

There are lots of smaller GEM games that do run on the TT but that I don't know where to find except somewhere on my hundreds of old floppies that still need to be read onto hard drive.
