In order to avoid too much conflict with our exsisting game play, we will start the Summer Bonus games on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 and play for 4 weeks ending on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 11:30 pm EDT. The games do not have to be played in any particular order. All points will be awarded at the end of the 4 weeks.

Also, anyone still interested in playing is more than welcome to do so, just let me know! Thanks!

UPDATE: I have included a link to each page on Atarimania for the games we are playing. (Just click the game name.) If you are using an emulator, these are the ROMs to use. If you are using real hardware, and don't have the versions we are playing, but have the other variations, use those instead. :)

Game 1: Qix--1982 Atari 8-bit version (not the 5200 conversion.) Set time at 90 seconds.

Game 2: Track & Field--1984 Atari version, 1 player, play all of the games. Post overall score.

Game 3: Summer Games--1988 Atari version, 1 player, play all of the games. Post your best score for each event.

Game 4: Espial--1984 Tigervision, no level option, play on default.

SUMMER GAMES UPDATE: Summer Games will be scored a little bit differently than the rest of the games. Post your best score/times/etc. These will be compared to the other players, and awarded points accordingly. 1st=10 pts, 2nd=8 pts, 3rd=6 pts, 4th=4 pts, 5th=2 pts. All other places, including "fault" will receive 1 pt. The points from each person on a team will be added together to get the final total for each person. Then the team with the most combined points, will be awarded the places for the competition. Please refer to the chart below.

Here is the link for Summer Games instruction manual.

Gotta get another Qix image, The one I have been playing looks nothing like your screen shot JellE.

Kenny

I got mine from Atarimania. There are two there. Here is the link. http://www.atarimania.com/detail_soft.php?...VERSION_ID=4207

In order to give yourself 90 seconds, just keep hitting option till it gets to 90 on the top right. You may have to hit start again after you do that, I did.

HMMM.... so it would seem regardless of how you do in Summer Games, if you are the only one playing, you will get gold, which in turn means everyone will score 40 points. Anyone have any suggestions as to what to do about this?

I think I have someone lined up for this but will know by tomorrow for sure. Also a Summer Games proposal, let's take notes of the times/scores we get in certain events. I haven't played Summer Games in forever but I seem to remember some events have times/distances, others have scores like diving.

does otto's cohorts still need a 3rd man? if so, i'm in!

You can still play if you want... I am in the process of getting some other folks to play as well. So, you can be the captain of your own team if you like! :)

Or if the other person bails on Otto's Cohorts, I can put you there. :)

Yeah... this is the way it works. I was kind of thinking the same thing. Keep a list of the scores for each event, and we will do the score based on overall place for each event, or something similar to that.

Sure, no worries...just let me know.

With summer games, recording times/etc would be good if you assign rankings for each game a point value like the game does...maybe 50 for gold, 40 for silver, 30 for bronze (20 for aluminum? 10 for lead? etc.). Or maybe scores more 'normalized' to the other games in the olympics to give it equal weight in the final standings. Just my thought...

ANOTHER UPDATE: Yeah, I am going to have to do a little more research, and figure this out. I thought I might have to do this with one or both of the multi games. I will work on another chart for Summer Games specifically. I am thinking each event will need to be entered (time, score or whatever way it is judged.) It should be up by this weekend. The highest score or best time for each thing will be assigned points, and so on... kind of like you suggested cephallus. Then the points at the end of the contest will be awarded based on the best overall score. I hope this makes sense. :)

Is anyone else having issues with the Gymnastics part of Summer Games? As in you can't correctly use the joystick or something along those lines?

Yes, I am as well. I can't figure out exactly what each position on the controller does. All I can seem to do is make the gymnast kick her legs out and wobble a bit before she lands flat on her back. The one time I got her to land on her feet was completely by chance. I have no clue how to repeat it. Too bad that Atarimania doesn't have the instructions for this game.

There is actually a link to the instructions for this game up in the first post... it is the same as the Epyx disk version. The problem I am having is not being able to make her do anything at all, except run at the horse. If everyone else has problems with this, then we will eliminate this game from the competition. There is no point in having something no one can get a score in.

I remember hating this section, but I'm practicing it a little and not sucking as bad. Hit the fire button to start your gymnast running, hit the fire button again before the springboard to make her jump up and onto the spring board. At that point, push right/left on the stick to twist on the way to the horse for increased difficulty points (ha). WHEN THE GYMNAST IS VERTICAL on the horse, press the fire button again - this makes here push off of the horse and get the height you need for spins. The only spin positions are up and down...up is fastest rotation, centered is slower rotation, and down straightens your body completely.

I say leave it in...if everyone's equally as bad, it doesn't matter. :D

Please don't eliminate it. Since reading the instructions I have had some limited success. It's definitely tricky. Thanks for the link by the way.
