Atari2008
I have a 4-switch woodgrain (from '77 I believe) and a 7800 (from '88 I think) and I alternate between these two when I want to play 2600 games. Mostly because of space reasons, if not I'd hook them both up. And I feel like some of the magic disappears from 2600 games when I play them on the 7800. The colors don't seem as bright and vibrant, and for me that's enough to take away from the experience. It may sound weird but I get more fun out of my 2600 games and enjoy the experience overall when I play them on the 2600. Anyone else experience this or is it just me? littleman jack
I haven't notice any color differences on 2600 games played on the 7800, but I am colorblind so I might be missing them. I have noticed that my 2600 homebrews look better on the 7800 due to the lack of ghosting/rf interference. I guess my 7800 has better shielding, or just newer parts. On the 2600, the homebrews I have get a lot of extra lines and interference on the screen when played on a 2600. However, I do like playing them (2600 games) on the 2600 better due to the nostalgia, the way they fit better into the slot, and just the appearance of a 2600 in front of me (it just looks good---good design on Atari's part). A.J. Franzman
I have a 4-switch woodgrain (from '77 I believe) FYI: The 4-switch woodgrain model is the 3rd version produced (not including Sears variants), and first appeared no earlier than 1978. Possibly later; I'm not sure. Edited August 7, 2008 by A.J. Franzman
