130XE help

So, I bought a box of stuff on ebay that was "all working".... Ha!

 

Anyway, trying to salvage what I got.

 

Patient #1: Dead 130XE

 

Power up gives a solid dark blue screen with some horizontal video noise.

Started at the 14.318 crystal... Scope says its good at pin2 of Freddie.

Checked Fred's clock outs (pin 5, pin 37), nothing but noise.

 

My 65XE has a nice 1.79 MHz clock on Fred pin 5, and 3.579 MHz on pin 37

 

Fred has good power and ground, so I'm just about ready to call it a dead Fred.

 

Before I go through the fun and enjoyment of desoldering and socketing a 40 pin IC, is there anything else I should take a look at?

(and yeah, 6502, Antic and memory are all socketed, no joy on Fred)

I only know what I have read here in the forums about replacing chips, but I bet you could replace the 130XE for what you would pay for the chip itself. (And I buy your 130XE Power supply to power my 130XE that was a junkbox find)!

Probably right. Such a drag that all thos ships are soldered. I know it cut cost for them but...

Yah, I hear that. Really wanted a working 130XE though. I have an XEGS with no power supply, so worst case scenario, I'll use the 130 for parts and use the PS for the XEGS.
