Fire Button
I've searched this forum for an answer, yet could not find it - my apologies if this has ever been covered. ** Attention: there may be spoilers in this topic ** I've last completed AR - The Dungeon about... 20 years ago, I think. With a little help from popular magazines on the Atari 8-bit series, I made it all through to the alien spaceship and defeated whatever it was that was sitting there. Earlier in the game, of course, I had to answer the Gargoyle's riddles. Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt. There was one funny thing with the copy of the Dungeon I had though. Once I solved the Gargoyle's riddle, I decided to go back in and see if he had anything else to say. The only text showing up there, with a cursor beneath it, was the question What is my name? No elaborate rhymes, not really a riddle, just a very plain question. Until this very day I had no clue. Everything I tried just made him throw me out without any response. I've tried all educated guesses, I've searched the Internet, unsuccessfully, for an answer. Does anyone know his name? If so, what happens if you answer him correctly? There apparently is no need to answer his question, as I was able to finish the game without it! So what's this all about? Nukey Shay
A tie to the next game in the series (AR:The Wilderness)...which never happened. The answer to "What is my name?" would have been hinted at in there. Since the third installment never emerged, DataSoft eventually released the name to rabid fans who simply HAD to know Answering with "SHINGOR" would produce the following response: "Greetings! I have a weapon and ammo here for you. You need them to get past the sentries. Meet me in your true form on the bridge."
Fire Button
Wow. You just solved a 20-year old enigma for me. It almost feels as if I can die peacefully now. Thanks for answering. I really appreciated it! But did you actually really get a special new weapon, and was it of any use within the Dungeon?
Nukey Shay
IIRC all it really does is trigger a flag in your character's data (so that the sequel would detect whether or not you advanced).
Fire Button
Makes sense. In that case, I'll skip replaying the entire game through an emulator to test it out. Thanks, ~ A Rabid Fan Who Simply Had To Know
Heaven/TQA
sad that we never got "the wilderness" or "the arena"... wilderness reminds me any "outdoor" RPG and arena, well... as Guild Wars & WoW player...
zagnalopius
Actually, if you can tell Shingor his name correctly, he gives you a fully loaded Pulse Rifle (not to be confused with the Gauss Rifle hidden on level 1) and two packs of extra ammo good for 95 shots each. The Pulse Rifle does Power(High) and Fire(Low) damage, requires two hands to wield effectively and wears out through use.

Nice to know though. Kind of breaks the style - when you've got some knight waving his sword at you and just blast him with your Pulse Rifle, Indiana Jones-style.
