Any way to gently nudge the playfield left or right?

Is there a trick to move the playfield over a tiny bit to the right or left? Maybe as little as half the size of a sprite pixel?

Yep. Grab TV. Move it sideways *just a tiny little bit*. Done.

Alternatively, you could install a modified TIA that has the dot clock slightly shifted.

 

But seriously, the answer is No. The backgroung pixel positions are all fixed in relation to the Horizontal Sync signal. Side scrolling is limite to multiples of 4 dot cycles (what most people call pixels).

Thanks. I hoped since we can 'nudge' the playfield vertically using playfieldpos, maybe there was a way to do it horizontally too.

You can do vertical smoothly because the 2600 has no vertical resolution.
