77punk
I just got an Atari 800 yesterday and I went to hook it up and a black screen. I see from google searches that the power unit has problems sometimes and flakes out. I went to take a multi meter to it and it didnt read anything when plugged in under 20v settings. Can anyone give me some info on how to check if my power unit is dead or what. I would love to open the system up but would rather see if i can do anything outside of the unit first. cheers Edited September 23, 2008 by 77punk

77punk
I actually did some reading on here and saw that the disk drives also use the same power box so I found one in the box of stuff I bought and it turned right on, so problem solved. thanks for you advice.. a8maestro
It can easily be the fuse in the ac supply has blown. Otherwise they are very robust. Either replace it, or cut it open at the seam, carefully. Usually once opened, a fuse holder is put in the case for future ease. Rick D. 77punk
How would I take it apart? Just split it with a flat screwdriver or something? +bf2k+
How would I take it apart? Just split it with a flat screwdriver or something? ... The only one I ever took apart had to opened by cutting the seam with a dremel tool.
UNIXcoffee928
I haven't done this surgery, but I would say that you would probably have the greatest control of the outcome with a HACK-saw.
a8maestro
Sadly, no. They require a hack saw. And then get taped together Rick How would I take it apart?
