zeroline
I have just purchased this game and it is great! I have a problem as I cannot ID which of the "barns" (on the ground for reloading) are friendly so I can land and reload. I have learnt how to land and have no trouble doing this, but it is just it is randowm as flying around I cannot tell which barns are OK to land near. It says in the manual to look for colours on the roof, but to me all the barns roofs seem the same colour "grey", so when I land it is just random as all ther barns look the same and sometimes I crash as it won't let me land. Can somebody tell me how to identify the difference between friendly and enemy barns. My plane squadron is always the skeleton and it says in the instruction the colour is balck, but I do not see any black roofs and the instruction say your team colour will be on the roof. Help! Help! wow, i didn't know you could land. I have the game too, but I usualy set it to unlimited ammo or I just die before i run out. do you just shut the engine off and come in really slow to the hangar door or what? I guess i'll have to try landing at the barns some more. last time i tried i crashed into the barn, so i figured it was just for looks. Skylark68
You can land at the hangar, but it's pretty difficult, especially when you are taking enemy fire. Most of the time it's not worth the risk unless you are playing with very limited ammo and 3 opponents. Odds are you will go down in flames while trying to land. It's been so long i can't remember what button to push when you are coming in. It's either option 1 or option 2 i believe. You have to be pretty close to it. When you make a successful landing it shows a cut scene with your plane coming in to land and some guys refilling your plane with ammo. You can still take hits while you are on the ground too. I don't know if there is a difference in the appearance of the hangars. If you are playing 1 player i don't think the computer has a hangar. With 2 - 4 players things change, but it's been more than 10 years since i played the game "lynxed" up.

Ok, so i read the online instruction manual (here on Atari age) and i figured out how to land. and if you are just playing against the computer, it does not matter what the hangar looks like (the different colors is when you are playing against other people). If you read the instructions and follow closely its not too hard. Be sure you're flying low (white hand of the altimeter in the green range), and you're flying no more than half your maximum speed. Then when you get close to the barn, turn off the engine, then press option 2. if you are going too fast, or you are too high, it wont work. also be careful, if you have somebody on your tail, he will kill you as you are landing. zeroline
Thanks to all - that has helped me out. I do not have a problem landing - but from the replies I now know that when you play the computer all barns are friendly (so you can land at them all), as it appears the "computer" does not have a barn. When you link up with others apparently this is when the barns are different. I don't have any freinds who are weird enough to play a 1990's hand held game, so I only ever play the computer All clear now, thanks for your help. Skylark68
Glad you got your answer. If you ever come to the Houston area, PM me and we can play a few rounds of Warbirds. It's a lot of fun lynxed up, especially with all 4 players. Some great dogfight action.
