Draugr
Hi, I just hooked my colecovision and Atari 7800 to my new Flat screen TV and the quality of the vide ois bad. The Colecovision is worse with bleeding colors and blurry graphics. The 7800 just seems to be a bit blurry. Now TV signal and PS2 work great, so its gotta be the RF cabling and connector. I wanted to know if it really is worth the money to get gold plated cable and a gold plated RF connector. Will this make the images sharper and more colorful? I know there are ways to convert the systems to use A/V but I'm no electronics expert and don't want to damage the systems so I prefer to try other means instead of taking apart the systems and soldering wires and such. Anyone have any info on the gold plated stuff or know of a way to get better video off of these systems please let me know. Thanks John
eggplant_casserole
That's what you get with RF and modern TVs. Some don't like playing old consoles on at all - best off in such situations to keep an old portable! The atari CAN'T output hi res, so you're not getting any advantage out of this TV. Of course, you have to add the connections yourself. Not overly hard if you're handy with a soldering iron, though. Voch
Are you using an old-style TV->Computer switchbox for the 7800 and Colecovision? I get much better video with my 2600 and Intellivision when using a simple RF->Coax adapter from Radio Shack ($2 US) (and a coax A-B switch for when I want to watch TV).
