A 1040STFm or 1040STe would probably be the best bet. The STe is able to use 32pin simm memory up to 4mb but are a bit harder to find than the ST/STF/STFm models.

Lately I've decided to get into the ST scene, and I have just three questions: What ST model is best for games, what are some good games, and are there NTSC/PAL issues?

Well, I'm not really interested in RAM upgrades, and since the STEs tend to go for a fair bit, I think I'll go for a 1040STFM.

You might want to hold that thought. If you are planning to use floppies for everything then yes a 1mb ST should be enough. But if you plan to get a HD solution and load games from that then a RAM upgrade is essential. ULS fixed titles require more RAM for the RAMdisk.

It will be difficult to get the 32-pin simms into an STe though.

I'd recommend using 30-pin simms.

:rolling: :rolling: :rolling: Been dealing a lot with 32 & 64 bit systems lately. Got the number 32 burned into the brain!!! Yes, 30pin simms would fit a 'bit' better!!

Any ST sites like AA with a list of games?

AX

here are a few good links:

http://www.atarilegend.com/news/news.php

http://steem.atari.st/automation.htm <--- I love the automation collection. The page has FTP links so you can download the whole thing.

ftp.pigwa.net

and like the previous poster said: http://www.atari.st/ however, you may want to browse it via the wayback machine:

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.atari.st/

Does anyone recall the little green desktop from back in the early part of the decade? I remember downloading a hard drive image that was fully bootable in any ST emulator and it had a bunch of games installed. Does anyone have that hard drive image? They no longer have it for download and I don't think archive.org will have it backed up.

I know the early atari.st, but I did not download things back then.

I just fiddled with my 1040 and midi, plus I had some monochrome games that were absolutely sufficient for my needs - well, they still are, although I sometimes play other things as well now. ;-)
