Jaguar Emulation

Okay, I know there are a couple emulators for the Jaguar out there, but none seem to work all to well. Any secrets, advice, etc? I have MESS 0.131 and ever rom I have ever tried just seems to NOT work. Frustrating. Now, granted, I have a small collection of a few Jag titles and a working cat. I do enjoy it. However, I wanna try out a few titles before I decide to go and invest in them for my collection. Argh, I need help.

I hate messing with emulation if i can buy the game I buy it and if I don't like it I sell it usually I break even sometimes I lose a bit thats my way of doing it though. Good luck with the emulation though-its never perfect and overall a pain in the ass.

To my understanding, the Jaguar's fugly hardware causes problems on the emulation scene. I mean, seriously, we're just now getting into 64bit computers being common. But yeah, it's pretty crappy, to bad to, there's some games I'd like to take with me on there too.

I tried Project Tempest and it ran all the Jaguar roms I have here.. all 4 of them.

Works really fast too.

MESS 0.131 Jaguar emulation doesn't work at all, as you've discovered.

MESS 0.132 will at least start, although the screen is only half as wide as should be, and most games crash or freeze.

At least Alien vs Predator works. MESS also runs really slowly.

You'd be better off with Project Tempest.

I'm taking a look at MESS's innards now. Maybe it might run better in 0.133. Don't hold your breathe though, the Jaguar is quite a complex little beast.

Project Tempest v0.95 does an okay job with some games. It's great for Tempest 2000 on your laptop, for example, but can't run Iron Soldier past the menu screens, and shows Super Burnout with a messed-up road surface that makes the game unplayable.

It's too bad the developer stopped work on it five years ago; if he'd continued it'd probably be a pretty good effort by now.
