morelenmir
This is a very old thread, however it has the right title! Has anyone who made their own used a blank project box rather than a repurposed piece of Atari equipment or a purpose-made case? You can get just about every size and shape for under £10 on ebay I see.

morelenmir
I'd like to add only one picture ... A picture that says it all!!! I can imagine the work that took; very impressive. I may also steal your idea!!!
576XE
Do IT, but faster! I stealed it from Panasonic! Mu-ha-ha!
576XE
By the way... No one thought about new Atari controller - Direction Pad. But it may be USEFUL!
morelenmir
On the main circuit board for the barebones Lotharek "SIO2SD" there are two groups of pin-header/jumper pads - see the highlighted photo below. What are these for? Is it worth attaching headers for future use?
flashjazzcat
JTAG header, presumably the same as the one on Ultimate 1MB (also unpopulated). Header makes it nice and complete, but you'll never need it unless the AtMega needs reprogramming.

I'm wondering if they are - very helpful - attachment points for external LED's?
flashjazzcat
More than likely, but I'm not sure.
morelenmir
More than likely, but I'm not sure. I guess a bit of continuity testing is called for!
morelenmir
More than likely, but I'm not sure. ...And it turns out they are!. Excellent - that makes one aspect of fitting an aweful lot less fiddly!
morelenmir
I think 'JP1' leads to orange 'D4' that lights on perhaps flashing the firmware, 'JP2' leads to red 'D3' which lights on 'Read' and 'JP3' leads to green 'D4' which lights on 'Write'. Maybe... I did not have different colours of LED in my spares, only red - so I will have to label them on my case. On the whole it has been a learning experience. I will probably try again when I can get a another box and some coloured LED's and some better switches. A lot of fun.
