Is there additional explaining that goes along with this OP? Are you planning on buying one with X-Mas cash, peeked into a hidden stash, stealing it from someone, or what?

With Xmas cash.

Doing a deal for one with atariauctions right now :).

Did the deal work out?

Unfortunatly, no. This guy I tried to buy it from just ignored my PMs, so I bought an Atari XE Game System off ebay.

Is there a 2600 adapter for the XE?

No. But many of the good 2600 games were made for the 8-bit computers.

I didn't think so but you're original post sounded like you wanted a system to play 2600 carts

Well, 2600's are cheap as dirt anyway, so just pick one of those up sometime too (then get one of the programmable multicart solutions, I think the new one is the Harmony? (I'm out of touch). Playing 2600 games and playing 8-bit/5200 games are totally different experiences, I don't really think one can take the place of the other unless your only qualification is "old games".

Well, as it happens I'm getting a 5200 from the.golden.ax for my birthday instead! Let's hope it works out this time.

With ax it always works out. Ax is bar-none the best person to deal with in the classic game business. Always goes out of his way to make sure you're a happy camper. :D
