Atari Master
What would you give it in 1 out of 10?
Atari2600Lives
I am really biased towards Japanese monster movies (I love them) so if your a fan of the genre then it's not a 10, it's an 11. Straight up as a fighting game I would rate it an 8.5 This would be 2 montsters just going toe to toe and using the city for tactical advantage while fighting each other. It's fun destroying and hurling buildings (historical BTW as the cities are reproduced nicely). Most of the basic controls are unique for each monster they do fight differently(each monster has their own special attacks as well). For example, pick a certain monster and you will waxed if you go in toe toe with Godzilla himself. There are flying attacks, laser beam eyes, fire , reproduced accurately from the monster movies. the sound effects are dubbed perfectly. The military also zeroes in on you during the fighting and random missles come from everywhere. There are also Aliens in the game that leave power ups for you. You can randomly enlist monsters like Mothra (the butterfly) to fight for your side if you pick up the right power up. there is an adventure mode with the alien invasion story line that ties a bunch of fights together. Then finally there is a game called destruction. the object of the game is to destroy as much of the city as posible before time runs out. You can play cooperative with the other player or against (they score you individually for total mayhem)...yes it's as fun as it sounds. All in all a solid , fun 8.5 game. A Fighting game purist might complain that the mosters move slowly sometimes...but hey they are 200 feet tall after all. The graphics are also done nicely, with good camera angles and nice effects especially in night fighting games. The only real negative is the amount of monsters that you start out with and are able to choose...only 3...pretty weak(although all of them can fight you when you play against the computer).Right now I am looking for a cheat code to unlock all the monsters as I just want to play cooperative destruction and versus with my son. I am really not interested in pounding away at the story line to unlock more monsters.
Scooterb23
Ok, you've sold me, is it 2 players max...or can we get 4 player mayhem??
Atari2600Lives
There is 4 player for sure in the following game modes: Melee Mode: free for all battle. Team battle: red and blue teams battle it out. Destruction Mode: See who can acculate the most damage points in a timed battle against the city. Hope this helps. Atari2600Lives
My actual excitement and trying to share it with you guys blinded me to the fact that there was another post! My God I AM THAT STUPID I did not even post this because of the "Atari" connection (I just edited my first post to reflect this)but now that you mention it. There are Atari logos in the game that you can collect randomnly to unlock gallery pictures....now that is the icing on the cake!
+Cafeman
I wonder if NY city was originally one of the cities in the game, removed due to last yr's terrorism. Just think, if things had gone differently, we might be trashing the twin towers with big G right now with clear consciences and glee. In the Twilight zone. Atari2600Lives
Punishing the space needle in seattle, doing a belly spalsh on the bridge in London, or just thrashing a San Fransico freeway (maybe it was another city ) does just fine....but of course New York would of been in the game. Tokyo seems claustrophic at times with the tall buildings ,New York city would of been the s@! The more I play this game the more I love it. there is one other thing I have to point out. Some of the names we have grown accustomed to , like Monster -zero for the 3 headed beast is replaced with the actual Japanese name....and one more thing...where in the hell is Gamera?????? I hope it's one to be unlocked !
+Cafeman
Nah, I believe Gamera is a different film studio. He won't be in this game .. but that would ROCK!
Atari2600Lives
Gamera in a different film studio? That explains it. I just went to Amazon.com and picked up the DVD movie Godzilla:Destroy all monsters. It explains some of the choices for monsters. This is also suppose to be one of the best Godzilla movies. I think I have seen them all except this one.....funny....and it's the one the game is based on.
