console junky
I recieved this 5200 from a friend that had it sitting in his garage collecting dust. The system has a wonderful picture just no sound but a high pitch whistle. Has anyone ever ran into this issue before ? Both joysticks are in very nice shape, but do not work even after cleaning them. Buy new ones or have these rebuilt maybe ? Any suggestions would be great. console junky
No other sounds, I did power on the unit w/o a cart in it to see if the whistle was still there and it was.

voiddweller
Hmm.... thanks for the info, but what in the world is a pokey chip? Check out the 5200 FAQs: " A7 C012294 POKEY This chip is responsible for generating sound, reading the position of the joystick, reading the keypad buttons, processing IRQ's and, controlling the serial I/O port which is accessible through the expansion connector. " You will need to remove the casing to expose the MOBO and then remove the RF shielding around the cartridge socket. Inside, you will find the POKEY! I wish I had a picture. Maybe someone could post it for you....
kevjon1
does any one stock pokey chips (best electronics maybe) if only a couple dollars might be worth plugging a new one in.
A2600
that the 5200 does have a loud pitch noise when a cart is not inserted bout upon inserting a cart the noise reduces but you can still hear a bit of noise.... It might just be my switchbox upon the fact that my 5200 is not diplaying colors.. but yeah it tends to have noise when a cart is not inserted!!
