Retro Gamer Videogame Hardware Handbook

Retro Gamer Videogame Hardware Handbook is an interesting book but authors have forgotten Atari 8-bit computers! A big mistake!

Perhaps in England they didn't have a great success but from an historical point of view you cannot forget those computers.

In 1979 they were very advanced: 128 colors, custom processors, sprites, 4-channel sound etc.

Many videogames milestones have been written for these computers (Star Raiders, M.U.L.E., Alternate Reality, Rescue on Fractalus, Dropzone etc.).

Moreover, they were leaders of the market in period 1980-1982 and at least 2 million machines have been sold (1979-1985, http://jeremyreimer....ostman/node/329).

On the contrary, Gameplan's The encyclopedia of consoles, handhelds & home computer correctly mention Atari 8-bit computers.

At least in Retro Gamer Collection Volume 3 Retro Gamer has dedicated 8 pages to Atari 800XL (and A8 computer line).

Retro Gamer Videogame Hardware Handbook is now out of stock.

I hope a new edition will be published including Atari 8-bit computers.

I have just written an email to editorial Darren Jones.

That's odd. I first became interested in Retro Gamer when saw their Anthology - which had a nice big article with lots of Atari 8-bit photos in it. In fact, looking at the lovely 800XL photos in that magazine is what got me obsessed with getting back into Atari.
