moycon
I know alot of folks seem to hate 3-D and wish more 2-D games would be released....but something popped into my head, what about a 3-D re-make of Joust??? Think something like this would be any good? I think it sounds kinda keen.

sdstuff64
Hmmmm that could be good.Yes,if the right people do it the game might turn out well. But who would you want to make it?
Ze_ro
Depends on how it was done... if it was still essentially 2D gameplay, but 3D graphics, it might be good... but I'm not sure the gameplay would translate well to 3D... --Zero

JagMX
id actually like to see a better 2d enhanced version of Castlevania
VidGameKing
I like what they've done with defender, so if they could do the same sort of thing wit joust, it would be like a third person shooter like tomb raider!

NE146
I remember there was a 3d-ish shareware version of Joust made for Windows 3.11 believe it or not.. It wasn't anything great of course though.
MegaManFan
Would this "fly," ha ha ha. In all seriousness, no. Out of all of the 2-D combat based arcade games of the 1980's, Joust would have to be one of the ones that would port LEAST well. Think of it this way: when you're playing classic Joust, you can always see the enemies or opposing player above you, behind you, or to the side. Now imagine that playing field laid on top of itself over and over again thousands of times, with the idea that while you're looking left right up down someone could hit your ostrich in the waist on it's side, instead of head on or tail behind. Anywhere in those thousands of stacked up layers you can be attacked from 360 degrees with a lance. How would you even determine who had the superior jousting position? Programming code used to say the highest rules except in the event of a tie, where they just clash and bounce off. In three dimensions that falls flat, ironically. The only way you could determine a palpable hit is to give the flyer 100% control over the lance, to direct where the point of it hits and who hits first. That naturally begets that people will actually try to parry with the lance, even though it's too big and heavy for a proper fencing weapon, and you'll have to code for that and/or consider giving novice players a shield (and coding that). At this point what does it have left to do with Joust? Not much, but that three dimensioned Joust keeps getting closer and closer to Descent. eric_ruck
I could see it flying in a number of ways. I would see it like a 1st person "Descent" point of view. I would probably give the player a heads-up display in their armor that might provide a rear view mirror and/or some sort of radar so you could get an idea what's around you.
