Austin
Hey guys, just received my 7800 in the mail a few minutes ago.. All seems fine, except that I get no sound--just white noise. The picture looks good (actually, better than I expected it with the RF connection), but no sound? ugh. Anyways, I am using a basic RF cord from the system that plugs into one of those little connectors that screws into the back of the television (Sorry for my lack of proper terminology right now, I'm brain-dead as I write this). I've actually uploaded a YouTube video demonstrating the problem and the connection to avoid any confusion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB1fzRku4MQ Any help would be greatly appreciated! EDIT: Because the system I got looks like a beater, I plan on doing the A/V mod on it. Just not any time soon, so I would like to get this thing working asap so I can play it NOW! brojamfootball
The video and audio travel down the same line, so if video comes through you've got it connected correctly. My guess is there's an internal problem, either a connection or bad sound chip. Maybe try a 2600 cart and see if that gets sound, for starters. I'm gonna guess it won't. Beyond that, open 'er up and start looking around for burned traces or loose connections on the board, starting from the output connector working backward. Austin
Ah, bummer.. I tried a 2600 cart--same deal. Tried replacing the cable and connectors as well--Still no go. I will lastly try a different television set (highly unlikely that's the problem), then I'll crack it open later tonight..
fiddlepaddle
Over the years, it seems like maybe 20% of the 7800s I've found are missing the sound. I've never had one not work at all, just the sound doesn't. Simple workaround: turn on the radio.
