Bad network adapter?

Looks like our xbox has a bad network card now (our modem/router/cord all work since I am using that to post this message :) ). If this were a PC, I would open it up and replace the network adapter. But with an Xbox, it seems like the only realistic option is to send it to MS for $100 repair. Is that what most people do...spend $100 to repair a $200 unit? I'm thinking about going to Walmart to buy a $200 Xbox Arcade. For the extra $100, I get a new console/warranty, and another controller.
