darthkur
You are Dig Dug, the fearless protector of the earth. It is your job to rid the soil of all pooka's and fygar's, nasty monsters that have invaded our land. You are armed with your trusty air cannon which will fill up your adversaries to the bursting point. Don't underestimate your enemies because their very touch is deadly. Fygar's are even more dangerous due to the fact that they can breathe fire so stay out of their reach. On top of all of that they both have the ability to shift their bodies "out of phase" and move through solid earth. Your only recourse is to either stay out of their way until they reach an open area and solidify again or to drop a boulder upon them. Dropping rocks on the monsters works in your benefit no matter what though and you can take out more than one of the beasties at once. Also dropping a couple stones will make a tasty veggie to appear for an added bonus. So stay alert and bust the bad guys. Emulators are fine as is whatever controller you feel the most comfortable with. Screenshots are great but not mandatory. Please do not use any cheat/hack options. These include auto-fire, unlimited lives, invincibility, etc. Also, no continues. Only games begun at the beginning count. Settings: Level 1 "Carrot" (Default) Contest ends on: 3-29-10 at 1:00am EST. Final High Scores: 1st: DensB68 - 188,220 +11 2nd: atariron82 - 153,340 +10 3rd: atariksi - 151,940 +9 4th: Cafeman - 132,920 +8 5th: Divya16 - 94,020 +7 6th: roadrunner - 67,720 +6 7th: zylon - 24,600 +5 8th: NoahsMyBro - 15,020 +4 Current Standings: 1st: roadrunner (11) (1) 2nd: darthkur (10) 3rd: atariron82 (9) 4th: Cafeman (8) 5th: NoahsMyBro (7) 6th: DensB68 (6) Numbers in RED are accumulated points. Numbers in BLUE are number of rounds won. Link to the official manual: Dig Dug Manual Edited March 29, 2010 by darthkur

darthkur
Special rule for DIG DUG: NO CONTINUES PERMITTED!! [This specific rule is based on Twin Galaxies Official Rules for Dig Dug on Original Arcade Platform.] It's generally a given that continues are not allowed in all of the HSC's. But perhaps it should be stated for those that may be new. Also, in the future you might find it preferable to make a suggestion instead of boldly proclaiming a regulation. Each HSC here is run by individuals/moderators to maintain a semblance of order and fairness.

atariron82
This one ate a lot of quarters back in the day. The monsters seem a little harder to crush in this port. Learning a new strategy should be fun: 55,

I assume you've tried the one available here on AA: http://www.atariage.com/5200/roms/DigDug.zip If that one does not work for you then perhaps these will: Dig Dug (1983) (Atari) (U).zip Dig Dug.zip

It's 32K. The one on Atarimania is 16K for some reason. My cartridge doesn't work for some reason-- it freezes on title screen.

It would have to be truncated so I decided to give it a few more goes at it:
