no such thing as a great nes sight

Recommended Posts

When I first saw this thread, I thought you were complaining about the Zapper.... (sight... site...)

Although the Zapper isn't all that good, I like it more than the SMS Light Phaser... I could never seem to get any accuracy with that thing.

The ones I did find seemed to be filled with kiddies.

Exactly. It's like all the good NES sites are Kid-ridden. They all talk about stupid stuff and show off links of idiotic year old Flash files and animated GIF's and laugh at them as if they're brand new. "Hey! Look what I just found! All Your Base!!! HAHAHA LOL ROFLMAO!!!"

I'm in definite support of an NES similar to Atari Age. The NES has and always will be my favorite system. There are very few classic video game systems that can compare to the NES(With the exception of the Sega Genesis and Super NES).

I would love this idea ONLY if it was as comprehensive as AA is to Atari systems. I suppose that's impossible unless you pick an arbitrary cut-off point though, since they keep right on releasing new systems. Maybe a "set of 5" would be a fair match: Nintendo, Super Nintendo, N64, Gameboy, and Virtual Boy (bleh). It would need to have the forums, rarity guides, news page, and all the trimmings.

Nah, I'd leave gameboy stuff alone at first and focus on actual gaming systems. I'd feature the NES, SNES, N64, and Gamecube (that way the site would get a LOT of traffic from modern AND classic gamers). If the site caught on, THEN I'd look to expand to the Gameboy.

And yeah, I'd have the rarity guides, cart, manual and box scans, screenshots. Basically I'd take EXACTLY what Atariage has and apply it to the Nintendo systems. :)

It would be so cool......... :ponder: 8)

Come now come now! Some of you guys sound like real jerks. There are literally hundreds of NES sites out there. Definitely more quality NES sites than quality Atari.

The great thing about these sites is the variety. There are some like Atari Age (all information), others that are all humorous, some with both, and even those that just focus on retelling memories and nostalgia. I HIGHLY doubt any new site about the NES that sticks to the Atari Age style will succeed with adding anything new to the web. There are just so many info archives out there. You guys aren't looking hard.

Info sites:

http://www.atarihq.com/tsr/

http://gamersgraveyard.com/repository

http://www.nesworld.com

http://www.nesfiles.com

http://www.classicgaming.com/wwnbf/

http://www.angelfire.com/games2/nessie/index.html

Humor:

http://osg.disflux.net/

http://nintendope.iodized.net/

And both

http://www.neschedda.com/

http://www.nesplayer.com/

http://www.thisoldnes.com/

http://www.nes-site.com/

http://www.geocities.com/flyingomelette/

http://www.geocities.com/nesfaqs/

etc etc etc

And what's wrong with younger audiences getting into classic games? I, for one, commend them.

I think theres a site in the works similar to Atariage. I think its gonna be called Nintendoage.com. Or something along that line. Ask Giskard about it. Hes the guy behind all of it. Should be kinda neat when its finished. He wants to do a good job though.

Ok, so to be fair, I checked out those sites you posted and I must say NONE of them come close to what Atariage does for Atari.

Most of them are ALL over the place and a nightmare to navigate. Some of them are incomplete and miss some games entirely. A couple have Pop-up ads like crazy. Only 1 had anything close to a rarity guide.

While a few of them ARE good resources, I just don't think any of them can compare to AA or what an NES AA-type site could be.

But that's just my opinion.

Most NES sites have the same rarity list (composed by Etler, a bit outdated but there are people working on updated versions).

I'll give you the point about organization. There are no nifty search tools like Atari Age. And you might have to go to 2 or 3 sites to get everything you need, but you'll eventually get it. Creating a new page with something that someone already has just seems pointless to me. I'd rather see a site that focuses on game strategies of good (non-popular)titles.

For the record, I have seen NintendoAge.com. It WILL be what you're looking for. The person putting the site together has been quite busy as of late (A downside of his job; it comes in spurts.) and the release has been delayed. It will be, for the time being, only for the NES. In time, other systems will most likely be added, but this will obviously take time.

Everyone knows's that |tsr's (Kevin Gifford's) site hasn't been updated in ages; for tsr has moved on. It's still a great resource, regardless of the last time of update.

Ok, if you don't like the NES MBs out there, then don't go to them. Some people on this thread have made generalizations that make them look like a fool (Jasoco), when he clearly has never been to one. (And for the record, if you ARE looking for some childish, stupid people, the 95% of the gamefaqs MBs will fill that need.... you know it's bad when some people with too much free time on their hands form a "FAQ mafia...)

And please remember what audience you are hitting with both the 2600 (General) and the NES. While not being absolute, that those who grew up with the 2600 are 10 years older than those for the NES. And if they seem like kids maybe they ARE. Sure, in both sects, you can find 15 year olds in Atari MBs, and 25-35 year olds in the NES MBs, but in general, that's the way things seem to fall.
