SegaShooters
Does anybody use a USB adapter in order to use a Sega Genesis controller for emulation on the PC? I'm really getting into emulation and would like to use my stock Genesis controllers to play my GENS emulator games on the computer. Retrozone (http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=69) has one. Any opinion on their adapter (is it 100% compatible, etc.)? Thanks guys. goldenegg
I highly recommend the Sega Saturn style USB pads. I won't post any links, but you can find them all over Ebay. Unfortunately, there are some 'fake' ones going around. If you want to buy one, make sure you get one that claims PS3 compatibility. The 'real' ones are PS3 compatible and are great for SF4 too!! I've owned dozens and dozen of controllers over the years. These are easily my favorite! BTW ... Drop GENS and use Kega Fusion instead. It's a much better Sega (SG-1000, SMS, Pico, GG, Genesis, Sega CD and 32x) emulator. Edited April 25, 2010 by goldenegg

carmel_andrews
Perhaps i am missing something here but, apart from the fact that the sega pads used the standard Atari type j/s connector, aren't the control methods essentially v. similar to that of a PC joypad/gamepad (but with less buttons), wouldn't it be more advantageous to stick with the pc joypad and have more buttons as i honestly couldn't see there being any 'responsiveness' advantages betw. a sega pad vs a standard pc joypad (now I'd understand it if a sega pad had a contol method a'la 2600/a8/st etc then there would be a difference in the responsiveness compared to a pc joypad)
dooglehead
I made a controller adapter myself with a microcontroller for use with controllers with DB9 connectors (Atari 2600, Colecovision, Genesis, etc.) It connects to a serial port. Not a USB port.

But then I ended up not using it anymore and kept using my PC controller. It felt much better ergonomically in my hands then the original SEGA controller. Plus, I felt dirty

Using a controller with a layout as close as possible to the original console goes a long way to changing the overall experience.
SegaShooters
Thanks for all the input guys. There's some good options out there. The Saturn pad looks nice and the USB adapter from Retrozone may be really good since I can use all of my original Genesis pads. The gaming community is awesome!
