5200 Trakball Bearing Woes

The support bearing is rusted solid and un-repairable. So, I ordered a new one from Best Electronics. However, it doesn't come with the center pin to support it. How do I get the old pin out (without damaging the pin) and put it in the new bearing?

BTW - Bradley said he is in the process of starting production on the Gold-dot 5200 fire-buttons (a few months away) and is considering gold-dot keypads.

Mine isn't rusted so I've never tried it. I suppose a few carefull blows with a hammer would do it. Maybe spray some WD40 on it first to loosen it up.

I don't really know. Go fairly easy on it though.

Now that I think about it, you may be able to find a pin at a hardware store. I know they have some metal pins available. Good luck

I received the new bearing from Best-Software. I put the old one in a vise and gently (well...at first it was gently) tapped out the pin with the flat end of a screw of the same diameter. I put some wood in the vise and gently tapped the pin back in while the bearing was jammed in the wood, preventing damage to the surface.

 

The operation was a success and I am fully enjoying Centipede and Missile Command again!!!
