Rybags
4 meg, right. I was also happy to find mine already had 4 meg, although I've got an older TOS... might have to see about getting someone to burn 2.06 for me.

Thorsten Günther
I have TOS 2.06 USA chips for sale. Atariage special $20 shipped! I have some old TOS chips from a 1040STf can they be re-used, to have TOS 2.06 installed on them? Nope, those chips are too small. Also, I'd first check whether your ROM chips are socketed and whether the sockets are larger than the chips. TOS 2.06 is provided on larger chips (32 pins vs. 28 pins for TOS 1.06/1.62) and I've actually opened STEs that only had 28-pin sockets soldered to the mainboard (they can be replaced, as the solder points are still on the mainboard, but it's much more work). Similarly, in several STEs there are no jumpers, but 0 Ohm resistors. These can be cut off and replaced with small pieces of wire soldered appropriately. And if you have already opened your STE, you should check whether the DMA chips are the properly working ones, since if you don't have them inside, you should never write to a hard drive connected through the DMA interface (an IDE drive will work, of couirse, as will reading from DMA devices). It is very likely that a 1.62 machine has the good ones, I guess, but as Atari never admitted that the older DMA chip doesn't work properly in the STE, there surely are thousands in existence with DMA issues.
