Tight Slot

Jokes aside, my 7800 has been living in my cupboard for a few years after a purchase on ebay a few years ago. I've not had the time to really test it out until my re-assurgence in atari collecting and when i popped in a couple of games i found the games inserted correctly but its INCREDIBLY hard to get the carts back out. It almost sounds like the board is crying to be removed from the slot as it rubs agains the contacts. I've tried some 7800 and 2600 carts with it and i physically have to push down hard on the console to eject the cart.

The console looks fairly new, and i've opened her up and theres not a hint of rust or dust inside (apart from the cart slot), Does the console just need a bit of wearing in? Or are the PAL consoles tighter in anyway?

Yup. I have had a few 7800 systems that range from inserting and removing carts perfectly smoothly (early models) to the system almost not being able to accept even some later 7800 carts! Atari apparently screwed up the mold somewhere down the line. But, as said above, you can remove the collar completely if you want to and then you'll not have an issue inserting any cart ;)

Its the collar inside the 7800, very common. You can take the 7800 apart and either remove it or shave it down. If you look in the expansion port thread I think there is a picture of it.

Your going to have to link me to it, as i've had a quick scroll and i cant seem to find a picture of it.
