+orpheuswaking
Was going to play my 1040 STe tonight and the Floppy wont read any disks. I swapped in the internals from my SF314 and I was back in action... But obviously that's not going to work long term... Anyone got a spare 1040 STe internal floppy going spare? (maybe some of you that have pulled them for the HCX)
madmax2069
Did you try cleaning the heads or are they a total loss (if you already tried), or is it a different issue. Because 9 times out of 10 its just dirty heads that causes the drive not to read, or the heads becoming misaligned after a while of use. another issue could be a slow spindle speed causing it not to read. +orpheuswaking
Not sure how to fix misalignment or speed issues... But I cleaned the heads already.

amiman99
I was able to use in Atari STF a HP - Epson SMD-340 Flexible disk drive and it works fine. Its only around $15 on EBAY eBay Auction -- Item Number: 260637569785 not my auction, also you can go to your local used PC hardware store and look at their Floppy drive bin and maybe get it for $2 Here is the info below.... SMD-340/SMD-349 (3.5", 1.44MB) THE JUMPER BLOCK IS LOCATED ON THE REAR OF THE DRIVE BETWEEN THE POWER CONNECTOR AND THE DATA CONNECTOR. ____________________________________________________________________ | | | | | |---------| ------------------------- ------------------- | | | o o o o | | 9|10|11|12|13|14|15|16| | ooooooooooooooooo | | | |---------| | 1| 2| 3| 4| 5| 6| 7| 8| | oxooooooooooooooo | | | ------------------------- ------------------- | |____________________________________________________________________| ^ ^ ^ | | | (POWER (JUMPER (DATA CONNECTOR) BLOCK) CONNECTOR) DRIVE SELECT ------------------------------------------------------------------ JUMPER BETWEEN 14 & 15 | DRIVE SELECTED BY DS0 JUMPER BETWEEN 15 & 16 | DRIVE SELECTED BY DS1 (DEFAULT) JUMPER BETWEEN 6 & 7 | DRIVE SELECTED BY DS2 JUMPER BETWEEN 7 & 8 | DRIVE SELECTED BY DS3 ------------------------------------------------------------------
+remowilliams
I was able to use in Atari STF a HP - Epson SMD-340 Flexible disk drive and it works fine. I also have used Epson SMD-340s and they've worked out great. Only issue I had is PASTI imager capability, but that isn't going to be an issue for most folks. Well actually PASTI is one of the main reasons I wanted to get it working, I have some games that I said I would image for Atarimania. However I do have a working sf314 external for the B drive and that apears to work ok for now. I think I'll grab one of the drives you mentioned (also there is a guy in the UK who has some on Ebay premodded)... Although I am planning on getting the HCx flopy emulator so I may not even want to replace the drive after all... Any thoughts on that?
