Most common hardware issues?

Most common issues I've seen :

- internal voltage regulators blown because someone mistakenly used the power supply from another console. Fixable, but you need to be able to solder small parts.

- bad contacts on the cartridge port. Sometime they just need a good cleaning, but they may also be bent.

Yes look at your cart port pins and make sure they are all lined up straight and there's nothing in there.

Use an official Jaguar PS if possible. I do have a Radio Shack PS that has the exact same specs as the official Atari ones. 9V-DC, 1200mA/1.2A, & positive center plug polarity(very important)

Remember the light won't come on unless a cart is inserted.

Get a soft cloth and slightly dampen it with water a little and clean it up good, all surfaces. :) Enjoy!

The auction says that it was bought in a garage sale and not tested. You should know that some used Jags, especially the ones sold for cheap, have one of the faults mentioned above. It's up to you to decide if you want to take the risk of buying a potentially non-working console. Do you have the skills and motivation to fix it if it's the case (or lose $35 + shipping) ?

I wish I started googling before I disassembled the whole unit because the light didn't turn on. ;-)

So yes, good point. Many thanks for mentioning this so explicitly.
