HSC7 Game 13: Missile Command

I don't use the 800 because the rf module is bad. I'll try messing with the start button tomorrow.

 

I guess you meant your particular 800 has a bad RF. Try the DIN5 monitor port.

I had to mess with the rf when I got it. Then again when I dug it out to try the keyboard. It's useable if I leave the module's cover off. I'll just order a new keyboard and be done with it since it's useless without the function buttons. I can still play the games on the 600.

Never got any cables to use on the DIN port. I've tried to buy some twice and never got them, had to file claims. If I had some, it'd work for all my other old computers as well.

 

The console buttons are digital so any push buttons can be used connected to the keyboard connector or GTIA S0..S2 lines. The S3 is the internal speaker.

 

I have a few DIN cables if you want me to ship you one, pmail me.

Tomorrow, I'll be back on the 600xl. :) I've managed to fix it with the keyboard from the 800xl. The 600 had sudden total keyboard failure except for function buttons. The 800's keyboard was repairable by trimming the mylar strip back just enough to have a good connection. Neither keyboard worked on the 800, seems to be something wrong with the strip-socket. The best I can get from the 800 (besides parts) is the lower 4 function buttons with no reset. The function buttons run off of this trace here.

Now I'm back in business. Wedge mode score: 289,750

 

You people must be using some special controller getting 350K or 289K. After 6X mode using joystick to move around takes too long to go from one end of the screen to the other. What would be good is if Missile Command allowed switching controllers in the middle of the game because I prefer joystick but trackball/mouse definitely would help later on when action gets faster.

New "wedge mode" score! Rolled it! :D

It doesn't give a bonus city after rolling it unless you reach 10,000 before the level ends. I took first pic about 1 or 2 missiles from the roll.

 

That's a good score. No bonus at wrap-around point, but it should give bonus in next wave at 10K unless the comparisons are screwed after wrap-around.

Improved on the real game as well: 96,970

As for wedge mode, the key is screw the cities after 6X points, just shoot as many missiles as you can to achieve the bonus.

A harder challenge would be playing the game with no bonus.

Hardly anyone reads manuals these days. I was just going by logic that if they are comparing scores in the program that a wrap-around would produce a "0" score so it wouldn't be one of those scores that produce a bonus.

um, the world record for A8 Missile Command is around 940K, according to Twin Galaxies. Don't think that no more bonus cities after 1 million will ever become an issue.
