So, here's the link to the video that Benzaie of That Guy With the Glasses fame made about a new book coming out with an incredibly comprehensive history of Nintendo (as in back when they very first started out in the 1800's). The video is hilarious, as is just about everything Ben creates. Looks like this will be the definitive book on Nintendo for the history buffs out there. The top link takes you to Ben's video, and the lower one is the website for the book.

Alternatively...you can still buy Daniel (or was it david) Sheff's 'Game over' book, which is just as interesting

Sheff's book is very interesting, particularly the behind-the-scenes business dealings of Nintendo, but I've had to fact-check quite a lot of his information; he's somewhat sloppy when it comes to dates of games and events.

 

I'd also recommend the (recently released in English) Nintendo Magic as a nice companion piece for the Sheff book.

 

I will probably get Benzaie's book to see where it fills in the gaps of the other two.

Wow! It surely looks like an extremely interesting and comprehensive work: 2 volumes to cover up to the Game & Watch! Once they get to the Wii, this will look like the Encyclopedia Britannica!
