RangerG
I read several previous messages about the differences in the 2 port and the 4 port, but which would you choose? I am going to get a 5200 and I am pondering . Any suggestions/ opinions? Thanks -- RG
Lemmi
Well the 2 port is compatable with everything but Pitfall and Mountain King (i think), and the power hook up is normal and not though the switcth box But the 4 port could be modified to be compatable with everything (i.e. VCS adaptor)and plays all games, but it uses the switch box to power it up (i have 2, 4 port systems unmodified), but since i collect for the 7800 as well i have no need for the VCS adaptor, and i personally dont like the 5200 controllers and the size of the 5200 The best way to go would be the 4 port system with the " * " on it as it can play all the games and VCS adaptor and has ports for 4 controllers
Charlie_
If you dont care about Pitfall and Mountain King, get the 2 port. It hooks up just like every other classic system. Nuff said.... Also, it's black pebbled finish looks the best of all the 5200 variations. If your brave enough to open the 5200 and remove it's pain-in-the-ass shielding, you can replace the bios with a 4 port bios to make it 100% compatible with everything. Albert
I would personally go for a 2-port 5200 so you don't have to worry about the weird, proprietary switchbox Atari used for the 4-port model. ..Al

RangerG
Thanks everyone -- I listened and I have a 2 port on the way . What needs to be done to change out the bios to make it play the few games it won't play? What is a bios? I probably won't do that, but thought I'd ask. I like being able to simply hook up the unit so I am happy I decided on a 2 port.
+Mitch
The bios chip is one of the chips on the 5200 motherboard. You can either get a bios chip from a 4 port (preferably a broken one) or buy one new from Best Electronics. The chip should be in a socket, so you should be able to carefully pry it out of your 2 port with a small screwdriver. No need for soldering.
