jamesk
I picked up this Desoldering station. http://www.circuitspecialists.com/prod.itml/icOid/10146 It looks like the Aoyue 474A+ re-badged. This station is so good I hope to never touch the Radio Shack bulb suction again. I should have bought one of these a long time ago. I apply a bit of flux to the joint for best results. I also leave my iron on because some joints lack enough solder and it helps to have a good thick joint to suck up. I apply the end of the gun over the solder joint, with the tip touching the solder but not pushing down to touch the PCB. Once the solder melts I pull the trigger and give the joint a bit of a wiggle. Usually all the solder gets sucked up. If not I just apply some solder to the joint and get it the second time. Then I use my ESD tweezers to gently push each lead to make sure they are separated from the PCB. After that I use my extraction tool to gently lift the chip off the board. Piece of cake.
