ianoid
Do you guys suggest anything in particular in shipping a working 810? I pack carefully. What I mean is, what can I put in it, if I don't have one of those paper cards you close the drive on, to keep it from getting jarred and malaligned? Can I just throw an index card in there? Bryan
I think the most important thing is good soft packaging around the drive to reduce the G's. I've used cheap egg-crate foam for beds for this purpose (from someplace like WalMart) but enough 1" cell bubble wrap works too. It would take an awfully hard whack to actually slam the head to the other end. Anyway, the cardboard inserts are usually designed with a part sticking out to push the head assembly back to the T0 position.
OldAtarian
You can do like Atari did and cut a piece of heavy card stock to the size and shape of a floppy disc and stick it in there to make sure nothing gets jostled around. Be sure to cut a hole in the middle for the spindle. Edited November 29, 2010 by OldAtarian
