What specs of LED light can I use in an Atari 2600 cart?

Well to begin with there are two basic sizes 5mm and 3mm so decide which of those you want.

Then there are standard which run of 10mA each or low current/high efficiancy that run at 2mA each. I don't know how much spare current there is in the VCS so perhaps go for the low current ones just to be on the safe side.

Some LEDs have the dropper resistor built into them which makes wiring a little easier and means you don't have to work the resistor value out.

Well actually there are more choices out there such as Super bright (50mA) arrays (1Watt), two colour, three colour (typically RGB) and the odd large one (8mm?, not sure about current consumption) but for what you are doing a standard single Red, Yellow or Green LED of the spec I mentioned previously is all you need as Super bright and arrays will take to much power and a pair of 8mm probably won't fit or will just look wrong.
