emkay
As we may have seen with Space Harrier, Gr. 7 seem to be the outermost best mode for moving objects. What could happen, if some coder decided to create a hor. and/or vertical scrolling shooter. Using the "gr.7" resolution for zooming objects and overlays it all with multiplexed PMg ? Rybags
Time Crysis might be a good one. Got it on the PS1 here. Of course probably forget about moving the entire background in 3D mode but much of the gameplay elements could be preserved. Might work better in the 10++ mode... Mode F using VScrol trick to get 4x4 resolution pixels in 9 colours. Then again, probably better again to just use the Mode 2 in GTIA Paletted mode, much easier to move big chunks of stuff around. With this argument, I would vote for Ikaruga:
emkay
I'd imagine some Scroller-type like Armalyte. Just with gr. 7 in the background and the free cycles on the screen could be used for the multiplexed "independent" and parallax moving PMg . Also possible , a real drum channel .... The main difference to "Armalyte" or "Crazy Comets" could be that the enemies can be zoomed when exploding (for example). They could also come from all directions, including "z" direction, not only from "2D" directions.
